South Africa solidified their No.2 spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table after a 220-run victory in the Durban Test against Bangladesh.

The Proteas, second to only Australia in the tally, have 66.66 percentage points to their name, having won four of the six Tests they have played in the current cycle. This includes the 2-1 victory over a visiting Indian side earlier this year. Between the home assignments against India and Bangladesh, South Africa travelled to New Zealand, where they drew a two-match affair 1-1.

Meanwhile, Australia sit comfortably at the top, with 75 percentage points after their recent victory in the away series against Pakistan. After two dull draws in the three-match series, Australia won the decider in Lahore to register a 1-0 victory. They remain the only team that is undefeated in the cycle hitherto. Australia drubbed England 4-0 in the home Ashes before the Pakistan tour.

India, currently third in the tally with 58.33 percentage points, have won six of their 12 matches, while they have lost three, drawn two and one ended in a no result. Their most recent assignment was the two-match series against Sri Lanka, which they clinched 2-0.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka, meanwhile, occupy the fourth and fifth spots respectively, with the former marginally ahead with 52.38 percentage points as compared to the latter’s 50. Pakistan have three wins in seven Tests, while they have lost and drawn two each. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have played the least number of games this cycle so far (4), having won and lost two apiece.

England are languishing at the bottom of the pile, despite having played more Tests than any other team. Their only win came against India in the home series in 2021 before the series had to be halted midway owing to the rise of Covid-19 cases in the visiting camp. England subsequently lost the Ashes and followed that with another series loss (0-1) against West Indies away from home. They have lost seven of the 12 completed Tests played in this cycle.

New Zealand, West Indies, and Bangladesh are placed sixth, seventh and eighth with 38.88, 35.71 and 20 percentage points, respectively.
