When you speak about brutal hitting, then the first name which comes to mind is perhaps that of Caribbean legend Chris Gayle. Especially in the T20 format, Gayle is a stalwart and has the ability to hit the bowlers all around the park with ridiculous ease. Just like Don Bradman was the epitome of Test cricket and Sachin Tendulkar was the epitome of ODI cricket, Gayle has gone on to establish himself as the very best in the shortest format.

Gayle who is just 63 runs short of becoming the first cricketer to smash 10,000 runs in all forms of T20 cricket said that with time he has made the format his own and kept on learning and growing with the game playing different T20 competitions all over the world. ,” I am known for big-hitting, but since the T20s came in, my God, it has changed the entire script of cricket, which is fantastic. As an individual, it has made a lot of changes as well (to batting). I am thankful for it,” Gayle said.

The southpaw laughed on being compared to Sir Don Bradman and conceded he is the Chris Gayle of Cricket. ,” I am the Chris Gayle of cricket, the king, the universal boss of T20 cricket. I will be my own man in T20 cricket.” The star batsman also lauded his IPL captain Virat Kohli for changing his batting style and incorporating a big hitting approach. He also conceded that Kohli might be the first man to smash 1000 runs in a single edition which the flamboyant Delhi lad missed by only 27 runs.

Speaking of RCB’s loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of the 2016 edition Gayle said, ”When you look at the scenario (the team was in) and to pull through to reach the final, it was a great achievement. We were disappointed not to win, but we were also thankful to make it to the final. We are up against the same team (Sunrisers Hyderabad) in the opening match, so we can get our revenge and also go one-up on them.”

Gayle also feels IPL is the best T20 tournament across the world and added that every cricketer and fans will agree with his views. According to Gayle, the tournament provided each and every cricketer with the opportunity to rub shoulders against each other with the restraints of nationality. He also added that the big paycheck is just a good incentive.

He concluded by commenting his views on the recent introduction of helmet cams in IPL. ,” It helps the viewers get a different view of the bowler running in and that sort of things. It just gives the fans a different feel. That’s T20 cricket where you will always have different means to provide more entertainment,” Gayle said.
