Pakistan is currently going through a rough patch in the One day format. In 2019, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-captained unit has won only two ODIs, losing 10 matches in a row. Their bowling has been found wanting in most of the instances. Pakistan also didn’t have a great time in the warm-ups, losing against Afghanistan by three wickets. Their match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.

Pakistan is set to face the Windies in their first match of the main round at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The Caribbean batting unit had a good time in the warm-ups as the Jason Holder-led team racked up a 400 plus total against them. Quite expectantly, the Pakistan bowling line will be put to test against them. Both teams have strained over the years and will be keen to make a winning start.

Weather Report

There is a slight chance of rain early morning, but a full game can be expected to play. The temperature will be around the 19-degree mark. The humidity will be in the 50s and 60s throughout the duration of the contest. There will be 70 per cent cloud cover throughout the match.

Pitch Report

The pitch is expected to be an absolute batting paradise. The highest ODI score of 481 came last year at the very venue. Though the records are in favour of the chasing team, teams would want to put runs on the board and bat the opponents out of the game just what England did to Australia last year here, winning the match by 242 runs.

Playing combinations

Windies

Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle looked in-form in the warm-ups. Shai Hope is literally going through a purple patch, scoring runs at will. Darren Bravo will be looking to cease his poor run of form. Shimron Hetmyer and Andre Russell provide the X-factor to the lineup. The Caribbeans are likely to bench Fabian Allen and go with only one spinner- Ashley Nurse. Gabriel, Roach, Cottrell, Holder, and Russell are the pacers.

Probable XI

Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope (WK), Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Jason Holder (C), Ashley Nurse, Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell, Shannon Gabriel

Pakistan

Pakistan have announced their 12 for the match and have left out Shoaib Malik, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Hasnain. Mohammad Amir looks set to take the field for the opening game while Wahab Riaz will also play his first match since June 2017. Haris Sohail is most likely to be left out with Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan looking after the spin duties. The batting line-up looks sorted as of now.

Probable XI

Fakhar Zaman, Imam ul Haq, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Asif Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed (C & WK), Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz

Probable Top Performer

Chris Gayle – Windies | Fakhar Zaman – Pakistan
