The third match of World Cup 2019 will see settled New Zealand taking on beleaguered Sri Lanka. Both the teams have entered the tournament on the back of contrasting fortunes in the last couple of years or so. While the Kiwis continue to be one of the strongest ODI units in world cricket, Sri Lanka’s fortunes have been going from bad to worse with each passing day.

New Zealand were the runners-up in the last edition of the World Cup and are being tipped to go the distance this year too. On the other hand, expectations from Sri Lanka are not that high and it will take nothing less than a herculean effort from them to make it to the semifinal.

Both the teams, nonetheless, enter this game on the back of losses in their last warm-up game. New Zealand suffered a crushing loss at the hands of the Windies. The Caribbean outfit slammed the Kiwis for a mammoth total of 421 runs with Shai Hope‘s century and Andre Russell’s quickfire fifty leading the way. In reply, the Kane Williamson led-side were all out for 330 runs. The Black Caps, however, will take confidence from their impressive six-wicket win over India in their first warm-up game.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, lost both of their warm-up games. After losing to South Africa, the Islanders went down to Australia. Batting first, Sri Lanka managed a modest total of 239 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. Australia, who are the reigning World Champions, then chased down the total inside 45 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

How’s the weather expected to be?

Sri Lanka are bound to find the morning chilly in Cardiff as the temperature will be hovering between 17-20 degree Celsius throughout the game. As far as the rain is concerned, there is no reason to worry as AccuWeather has predicted no chances of rain in Cardiff today. However, there will be considerable cloud coverage with the weather report predicting 70% coverage during the game. The humidity will be on the higher side and will be ranging in the 60s and 70s.
