India have dealt with a severe blow with their regular wicketkeeper Wridhhiman Saha being ruled out from the one-off Test match against Afghanistan. He suffered a thumb injury while batting in the second qualifier of the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) and has been advised a rest of 5-6 weeks. Team India are already without their skipper Virat Kohli and a few of their Test regulars and will be under pressure going into the game. Moreover, they would not want to take the debutants lightly who are raring to get going in the whites.

The historic Test match will be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 14 after which the team will embark on the England tour. The selectors are yet to announce the replacement for injured Saha and they will be looking for a proper wicketkeeper. Ajinkya Rahane will lead Team India in the absence of Kohli which will be his second Test at the helm and would be looking to continue his winning record.

Here we look at the possible replacements of Saha for the historic Test match:

1. Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel is the likeliest to replace Saha in the Test team as of now. He was the backup wicketkeeper during South Africa tour and went on to play two Test matches. The left-hander did a pretty decent job behind the wickets but was guilty of dropping a few important catches at crunch situations which took the game away from the team. Despite an average performance in the second game, the team retained him for the final Test and Parthiv gave a good account of himself both with the bat and while donning the gloves as well.

The 33-year-old failed to impress many with his batting and struggled much like the other batsmen in the series and went on to score only 56 runs in the 4 outings with his highest score being only 19. He took 10 catches though which was brilliant as the seamers dominated the proceedings more often than not. Currently, he is the frontrunner for the post and if given an opportunity, he could also nail down his place for England tour.
