Axar Patel made the ball talk in the ongoing first Test against New Zealand and bagged yet another five-fer. The left-arm spinner made brilliant use of the track and ripped apart the visiting team’s batting order at the Green Park in Kanpur. Notably, this was Axar’s fifth five-wicket haul in only fourth Test match. Hence, he couldn’t have made a better start to his Test career.

Notably, Axar’s spell brought the home team back in the ongoing clash as the Kiwis were on a roll before the spinner unleashed his magic. His figures read 5/62 as the visitors got skittled out for 296 despite a 151-run opening stand. Following the conclusion of the play on Day 3, Axar was spotted having a conversation with fellow spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

He was seen holding the ball, from which he claimed the five-fer, with the information of the game written on it. “34-6—62-5, IND vs NZ” was written over the ball. Interestingly, the date on the ball was written 10th October 2021. Netizens were quick to identify the same Patel’s leg was pulled on social media. Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer, who’s known for his humorous posts, also didn’t miss out on trolling Iyer.

“The only mistake Axar Patel made today was putting wrong date on the match ball. 27th November hai bapu @akshar2026 #INDvNZ,” tweeted Jaffer after sharing the pic. Patel was quick to react to the post as he panned the blame on Suryakumar Yadav, who’s warming the benches in this fixture. “It wasn’t me… @surya_14kumar wrote this!” wrote Axar while reacting to Jaffer’s post.

Meanwhile, the left-arm spinner, who is predominantly known for his blitzes in limited-overs cricket, said he always backed himself to shine in Test matches. “I don’t know who said I am a white-ball player. Whenever I have played first-class cricket or for India A, I have performed well. I never thought that I was a white-ball player. It’s all about the mindset, whether you think of yourself as a white-ball or red-ball cricketer,” he said after the game.

“For me, I was waiting for an opportunity to perform (in Test cricket). And when I got a chance during the England series, I did well. I would give credit to the team for placing faith in me and giving me a chance,” he added.
