Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal have had one of the best domestic seasons with both of them scoring big runs for their state teams. However, a BCCI source has revealed neither of the youngsters will get an opportunity in the upcoming ODI series against England in Pune. The squad for that series will be announced on Sunday.

Shaw was with the Indian Test team on their tour to Australia but was dropped after the first Test where he failed to score anything of significance. The Mumbai batsman returned to India and played for his state team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has led Mumbai to the final, which is scheduled on Sunday, in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who left the tournament midway to join the Indian T20I squad.

In the seven innings which Shaw has played in the competition, he has scored 754 runs at an average of 188.50. He scored 185 not out and 165 in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively. During the course of the tournament, his strike rate has been 134.88 and he has notched up four centuries, including the highest score of 227 not out.

They have done exceedingly well but will have to wait for their turn: BCCI source on Shaw and Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal, who has been in form ever since the limelight has fallen on him, also has had a fantastic Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has scored 737 runs in seven matches, with an average of 147.40 and a strike rate of 95.96. He scored four consecutive centuries at one point during the tournament and has scored 50+ scores in the rest of the three innings that he played.

However, all these performances have not assured the two young men a spot in the Indian team. According to the close sources of BCCI, none of the senior players has opted for rest from the three-match ODI series against England, which will be held later this month. The source also revealed that as the team is preparing for the T20 World Cup at home this year, there won’t be too many surprising selection calls.

The source also revealed that two youngsters will have to wait for their opportunity. “The team is expected to be announced tomorrow. Neither skipper Virat Kohli nor his deputy Rohit Sharma has opted for rest. There aren’t many surprises as we prepare for the World T20. They have done exceedingly well but will have to wait for their turn,” the BCCI source said and was quoted by News18.
