South Africa have already lost three-match Tests series against India with one match still to go. The last Test will be played in Ranchi starting on 19th October 2019. With everything going against the visitors, their skipper has come out with an amusing idea for Ranchi that might help them change their fate on Indian soil.

This year is turning out to be a tough one for Proteas. The biggest dent they got was when they lost a Test series earlier against Sri Lanka by 2-0, followed by their unsuccessful stint in ICC World Cup where they ended on 7th position. But, in order to come back on winning track, Faf du Plessis might send a substitute tosser in Ranchi Test. According to the reports on Cricbuzz, 35-year-old revealed this in a pre-match press conference on Thursday

Faf du Plessis will come up with a new idea in Ranchi Test

Proteas admiral Faf du Plessis has lost 9 consecutive tosses in Asia. In order to break this myth, a new tactic will be used in Ranchi Test starting Saturday at the JSCA International Complex Stadium. This is not the first time, Du Plessis opted for such a strategy. Back, in 2018, he sent his mate JP Duminy for the toss against Zimbabwe in his quest to bring it in his team’s favour. And in that match, the tactic gave a resounding success to him where they ended match on the winning side.

As per the rules ahead of the game, skippers from both the teams come out to the centre for the toss. The team who wins it gets the option to select batting or bowling. It sometimes turns out to be the main factor in between a win and defeat.

This tactic was also opted by Australian women’s skipper Meg Lanning against Sri Lanka in the recent T20I series. She brought a substitute coin flipper Alyssa Healy to do the honours. Incredibly, Healy won the toss and a smiling Lanning, who was standing right next to her, decided to bat. In the end, they defeated Islanders winning the T20I contest in an easy manner.

South African skipper Du Plessis also gave his emphasis on the performance of batsmen and has asked them to step up and perform well against the hosts in the final encounter for this series.
