Prithvi Shaw may just be 18 years old but he has already created some big ripples on the surface of Indian cricket. October 4 will be a memorable day for the young man as he’s all set to make his Test debut for India against the Windies in the first game of the bilateral series in Rajkot. Quite understandably, Shaw has been going through mixed emotions ahead of the monumental day.

Shaw first came into prominence as a junior cricketer, where his exemplary performance led people to compare him to a young Sachin Tendulkar. Dedication and consistency, especially in back-to-back seasons in the domestic circle, has seen the Mumbai batsman emerge as one of the most impressive young guns in Indian cricket.

Prithvi Shaw feels a little nervous ahead of Test debut

Speaking to bcci.tv ahead of his Test debut, Prithvi Shaw explained his state of mind regarding the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in his life. “I am feeling very good, a bit nervous. When I came to the dressing room, everyone was like there is no senior and junior. Virat bhai (Kohli) and Ravi Sir (Shastri) told me. It felt very nice and I was very comfortable. Everyone was happy to see me,” said Shaw.

The youngster has been preparing hard for his first Test match and will be hoping to reap the results out on the field. Shaw said, “We just finished our very first practise session, which was very good and I really enjoyed my first day over here in the practise session and it has been going great.”

Till date, Prithvi Shaw has had an enviable first-class score tally, where he has scored seven hundreds and five half-centuries in just 14 first-class matches. Although he has accompanied the Indian team to England in the last two Tests of the away series, he had not been selected into the playing eleven. On Wednesday, the Indian team revealed a 12-member squad for the first Test and the teenager has been slotted in to open the innings with KL Rahul.
