In the past few years, we have seen a new format of the game come out from nowhere and gain enormous publicity. The shortest format of the game, Twenty2o was a hit the moment it spread its wings because it offered electrifying cricketing action alongside entertainment, that too in very lesser time. Now, a further shorter version of the game is going to be introduced, and former Pakistani skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq feels it will be a bigger hit.
The different franchise based T20 competitions all over the world are responsible for the mountain-like success of the 20-over format of the game, which in turn has reduced the viewership of Test cricket considerably. While many might criticise the shorter formats of the game by saying that Test cricket is the purest format, there is no stopping the evolution of the game, which not only connects more people to the game but is a greater source of revenue as well.
After the perennial success of the T20 format. the fans are gearing up to witness the T10 format, which will have a team facing just 1o overs, and the whole game will be of 20 overs. The T10 Cricket League is expected to be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December, and many well-known players like Virender Sehwag, Shahid Afridi, Eoin Morgan and Kumar Sangakkara are expected to be a part of it.
Inzamam is reportedly going to own one of the five franchises. “It is basically entertainment similar to the T20 format. T10 is a step ahead of T20 cricket, similar to the 90 minute football game. It will be a great source of entertainment for fans who don’t have the time as well as players,” the 47-year-old from Multan, Punjab said, as per reports in Business Recorder.
