Sunrisers Hyderabad were under pressure before the start of the match as they lost their last couple of matches against Supergiant and Delhi Daredevils. They lost their third position due to the upsurge of Supergiant. The Hyderabad-based entered the match in a do or die situation to ensure their fourth position in the IPL table.

In the match, Mumbai Indians’ winning streak was brought to an end after they found Sunrisers Hyderabad too hot to handle as they won the match in a clinical fashion with 7 wickets and 10 balls to spare. After winning the toss, Mumbai elected to bat first and posted a below par score of 139. Rohit Sharma top scored with his 64.

Moises Henriques and Shikhar Dhawan sealed a win as they scored 44 and 62 respectively. As a result, Shikhar Dhawan was elected as the Man of the Match, as he finished the match for his side. That said, let us look at some of the game-changing moments of the match.

1. Early strike from Sunrisers

The Mumbai Indians were shell-shocked after the start received by them, as their side were reduced to 36-3 at the end of the powerplay. Parthiv Patel, Lendl Simmons, and Nitish Rana were back in the dugout due to some fine bowling from Siddharth Kaul and Mohammad Nabi. The duo hardly gave anything away in their five overs in the powerplay. The Sunrisers hardly gave anything away as the Mumbai batsmen went for only six per over.

2. Innings saving partnership from Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya

After the early jolt received from the top 3 batsmen, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma consolidated the innings with their important partnership of 60 runs in eight overs. Rohit Sharma brought up yet another half-century in the tournament as he scored a fluent 45-ball 67 at a strike rate of 149, laced with six boundaries and two sixes. Hardik played the supporting role as he withered the storm with his 15 runs. He lost his wicket trying to accelerate on a slow pitch.

3. Perfect finish for Sunrisers

Sunrisers were able to stem the flow of runs by constantly picking up wickets during the death. They conceded only 42 runs ion the last seven overs and managed to take three wickets. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Siddharth Kaul finished the innings off perfectly as they walked away with figures of 2-29 and 3-24 respectively. The lower order of Mumbai Indians was kept quiet.

4. Match-winnings partnership from Dhawan and Henriques

After losing the wicket of the orange cap holder and their dynamic skipper David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan and Moises Henriques weaved a match-winning partnership which deflated the hopes of the Mumbai Indians. After losing their captain, the Hyderabad duo compiled 91 runs in 11 overs. Moises Henriques made a free flowing 35-ball 44 and Dhawan justified his Champions Trophy selection with his 62 runs at a strike rate of 134 which sealed the game for the side.

5. Ineffective bowling from Mumbai Indians

The celebrated bowling line up of Mumbai Indians was rendered ineffective as the only way to defend a below par score of 139 was to take wickets at regular intervals and in clumps. But they allowed the game to drift away with partnership up front and at the back. Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma were not able to pick up wickets. Karn Sharma proved to be expensive which increased the headaches of Rohit Sharma.
