IPL 2015 – DD vs KKR: Graphical Analysis: The Kolkata Knight Riders registered another victory with a spirited team performances. On other hand, Delhi Daredevils lost yet another game at their home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi with the KKR winning the game by 6 wickets with 11 balls to spare. Match Summary:
Delhi Daredevils batsmen got good starts but none of them managed to convert them. After been put into bat by Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi lost two early wickets. Shreyas Iyer and Manoj Tiwary looked to settle the things for DD but got out for 31 and 32 respectively. Yuvraj Singh looked like he was set to play a long innings until he fell to a bizarre dismissal. Angelo Mathews in the end tried by hitting a few shots but couldn’t help his side to end on 146 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 147, KKR’s lost a couple of wickets at start before Gambhir, along with Surya Kumar Yadav and Yusuf Pathan built some good partnerships. Especially, Yusuf Pathan who gave a good support to Gambhir as the both involved in a 50 run stand and led the Knight Riders to register yet another comprehensive win. The KKR captain led his side from front but failed to finish the game as he got out when his side requiring another 3 runs.
Partnerships:
Except a couple of decent partnerships, Delhi didn’t have any notable stands during their innings. After couple of wickets at start, Iyer and Tiwary looked like reconstructing the innings as the runs came in at good pace. They put on 36 runs in 31 balls before Iyer got out. Later, Yuvraj Singh joined Tiwary and looked to play a big innings. Settled Tiwary tried his shot before getting out by giving a simple catch. The fourth wicket stand was the highest in DD’s innings which was off 37 runs.
Partnerships played key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’s success. First they got a 31 run opening stand from Gambhir and Uthappa before KKR lost couple of quick wickets. Surya Kumar Yadav in his usual way tried to counter attack the bowlers with a quick fire 24 but got out after adding 48 runs in just 32 balls. But Gambhir received good support from Yusuf Pathan, as they made the chase easier. Gambhir kept picking single whereas Yusuf Pathan was hitting boundaries. They both shared a 65 run stand in 47 balls before Gambhir fell when his side needed three more runs to win.
Gautam Gambhir: [60 runs, 49 balls; 8 fours]
Captain Gautam Gambhir continued his form in the edition by smashing his third fifty in four innings. He played an anchor role so that his side doesn’t lose wickets easily. He kept hitting boundaries at the start but limited them to singles, to rotate the strike later on. He completed his fifty in 38 balls but failed to remain unbeaten and score winning runs.
Umesh Yadav: 4-0-18-2
Umesh Yadav, who bowled well to pick wickets in last game, continued his form. His first spell costed 10 runs in two overs when Agarwal failed to connect off his bowling. During his second spell, he was more effective as he managed to give away singles at death overs. In addition, he got wickets of Kedar Jadhav and Angelo Mathews finishing off with figures of 18 for 2.
Piyush Chawla: 4-0-27-2
Piyush Chawla bowled one of his best spells in IPL. Concentrating more on good length and around the wickets line, Chawla managed to restrict the batsmen from scoring boundaries. He first got Shreyas Iyer’s wicket and later, he picked up the big wicket of the Yuvraj Singh by stumping him around the legs. With 9 dots in his 4 overs quota, Chawla ended with figures of 4-0-27-0.
