Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has returned to the fray in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year and celebrated it with a victory in the opening game. But the controversy has hit them suddenly following the Cauvery row over which the people of Chennai and other political parties are miffed with the Central Government. There have been calls to shift the matches out of Chennai as they might protest over the issue in the Stadium as well. However, Rajiv Shukla has given a statement on the matter and the future of CSK’s home matches.

The matter is hugely sensitive as even the legendary actor Rajinikanth expressed that the matches should be shifted out of the State to avoid more complications. Also, few of them are of the opinion that the players should wear black bands in order to protest against the Central Government. The Supreme Court will hear the matter on May 3 according to the reports with Centre to file a draft scheme on the same day.

What did IPL chairman say?

According to the IPL chairman, Rajiv Shukla, the T20 tournament should not be dragged into the politics and the fans have all the right to witness their favourite players at the Chepauk Stadium. “IPL 2018 matches in Chennai will be held as per the schedule. Adequate security measures have been taken. IPL should not be dragged into political controversies,” he was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court has also asked the authorities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to maintain peace in their respective States until the Court finalises its decision on the matter. The Men in Yellow are all set to play in front of their home crowd after more than two years and would be itching to start on a high after a confidence-boosting victory to set the ball rolling.
