The Delhi Daredevils have made a major announcement a day after the IPL 2018 auctions got over. The DD camp is keen on reforming their entire setup. Over the last few years, they have been one of the unfortunate sides in the competition. They have seen close games going against them at crunch times. Even after 10 years of the tournament, they find no title win to their credit.
Hence, it comes as no surprise that the think tank of the Delhi Daredevils is keen on starting from the scratch yet again. The recent developments from the Delhi camp has confirmed a new appointment has been made. Former Australian bowler James Hopes has been named as the bowling coach of the franchise for the upcoming edition of the tournament.
This is not the first time that James Hopes will be associated with the IPL. During the early editions of the tournament, he had been a part of the roster in the capacity of a player. His stint with the Kings XI Punjab was a fruitful one. He will be keen on serving the Delhi Daredevils now.
During his playing days, James Hopes represented Australia in 84 ODIs. In the 84 matches, he scalped 67 wickets and had mustered 1326 runs. He has played 12 T20Is for the Australian team as well and had picked up 10 wickets in the shortest format of the game at the highest level.
Not the first new appointment
It is worth noting that this is not the first new appointment that the team has made for the upcoming edition of the tournament. Prior to the auctions, the team had announced another former Australian cricketer, Ricky Ponting, as the head coach of the franchise. Ponting attended the IPL 2018 Auctions as well and was very much a part of the decision making at the mega event.
Furthermore, the team has bought veteran Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir. Ponting, in a media interaction, had revealed that Gambhir is most likely to be named as the captain of the team for the upcoming edition of the tournament. Gambhir has proved his mettle as the captain of an IPL franchise before. It was under his captaincy that the Kolkata Knight Riders had won the IPL title twice.
