IPL 2018: Delhi Daredevils welcome Mohammed Shami back

Mohammed Shami had been going through a fair bit of turbulence over the past few days. Hasin Jahan, his spouse, hurled multiple allegations at the Indian fast bowler following which his annual contract by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had been withheld. His participation for the Delhi Daredevils also became uncertain following the charges.

However, the Indian speedster was found innocent in the match-fixing-charge and has recently been cleared to resume national duties. He has been awarded a Grade-B contract by the BCCI and he also has been allowed to play for the Delhi Daredevils. Meanwhile, the Delhi franchise was delighted to have the Bengal fast bowler back in the mix.

The relief for Mohammed Shami

Hemant Dua, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Delhi T20 franchise, confirmed Shami’s inclusion in the squad in a recent interaction with the media. “With the ACU clearing Shami, we are all set to have him back in the team,” the Chief was quoted as saying by Sportstar. The franchise also dropped a message on Twitter welcoming back Shami.

Earlier, during the investigation procedures, a senior official spoke to the media and highlighted the sensitivity of the matter. “Look Daredevils management can’t take any unilateral decision in this matter. All players who play in the IPL have a tripartite contract involving the franchise, BCCI, and the player. Yes, we are well aware of the sensitive situation and we are having discussions with top BCCI officials. There is a clause about any player bringing disrepute, but it is for the lawyers to interpret it,” the official said.

Following the delightful news, Mohammed Shami also vowed to start his training, which was halted owing to the police investigations. However, Shami’s tussle with Jahan doesn’t end here. The cricketer has also been accused of domestic violence, extra-marital affairs and death threats. While fans are delighted by the return of Shami, they would also be hoping for him to be cleared of the remaining charges.
