With barely ten more days to go for the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to reach a conclusion, the sixth week of the tournament was truly an exciting one. Be it the Delhi Daredevils (DD) stunning the mighty Chennai Super Kings (CSK) or the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) snatching victory from the clasps of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), it was a week full of surprises in the IPL.
The losses that some of the teams suffered were the products of some major mistakes that they committed. Dropping an in-form player for an out of sorts one, promoting the wrong all-rounder up the order, giving too many chances to non-performing players, teams did it all. As we approach the final few matches of the group stage of IPL 2018, let’s take a look at the 5 biggest follies teams committed this week.
1. Dropping Karun Nair for Manoj Tiwary
The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were humbled by the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium this week and a major reason behind KXIP’s failure with the bat was the decision to drop Karun Nair for Manoj Tiwary, which backfired on the Ravichandran Ashwin-led side and how!
Nair has been in good touch in the tournament this year, with 247 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 126.67. Thus, it came as a jolt when he was benched to make room for Manoj Tiwary, who are not looked at his comfortable best in IPL 2018. Coming in to bat with just 8 runs in 2 games to his name and that too at a batting position a little too down the order for his liking, Tiwary could muster a lone boundary before the deliveries ran out for KXIP to get a win.
