Mumbai Indians registered their 2nd win of the tournament by defeating the table-toppers Chennai Super Kings with a big 8-wicket win in Pune. Mumbai ensured they crossed the line safely unlike in the previous game against SRH where messed up a 118-run chase with a mixture of good bowling and poor shot selection. The MI bowlers did a decent job to restrict the Chennai Super Kings to 169/5 in good batting conditions. Rohit Sharma saw his team through with an unbeaten fifty after openers put their hand in the chase.

Interestingly, Mumbai’s first win also came when Rohit scored a match-winning 94 against RCB at home. The MI skipper’s match performances were valued at 61 lakhs as per the CricTracker’s player value algorithm. His match value might not be enough to justify his price tag but it was well enough for MI to defeat an inform team. Sam Billings turned out to be the liable player of the game as he ended on the losing side scoring only three runs. Ishan Kishan and JP Duminy had no contribution towards the scoreboard despite ending up on the winning side.

Suresh Raina was on the losing side but was the player with the highest value from this match. He scored an unbeaten 75 off 47 balls with six fours and four sixes to take his team towards a total to defend. His innings was valued at 82 lakhs which is equivalent to his match salary. Evin Lewis might have started slowly but helped Rohit Sharma to settle down for a big knock. His innings was valued at 55.5 lakhs while his opening part Surya Kumar Yadav’s 44 gained a value of 47.5 lakhs.

Ambati Rayudu continued to don the orange cap with his consistency in the tournament. He scored 46 off 35 balls with four sixes as his knock was valued at 51 lakhs. Rayudu’s match value is equal to three times his average match salary while Lewis and Surya multiplied their average match salaries by two times. Mayank Markande didn’t pick wickets but the catches he took ensured him a value 8 times his average match salary.
