The comeback team Chennai Super Kings is all set to play against Rajasthan Royals at their new home ground MCA Stadium, Pune today. The hosts are coming into this game with a defeat against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali, where MS Dhoni failed to finish the game just by four runs.

The game against KXIP will be remembered for another reason. It was MS Dhoni’s lower back injury, which he sustained during that game. With four days rest after the game, MS Dhoni was seen practicing in the nets yesterday. But, will he play the game against RR today?

Speaking of MS Dhoni’s lower back injury and Suresh Raina’s fitness, the batting coach Mike Hussey felt positive about both players presence in the game against Rajasthan Royals. Hussey’s confidence on Dhoni and Raina’s presence in the game will surely be a huge boost for the Chennai franchise.

“I spoke to MS quickly on the bus, I asked him how is he feeling, he said he is feeling better,” Hussey revealed. “So we are optimistic. He is at the training today. Much of the same with Raina. But he will have to go through training, and then see how he is feeling. We are feeling pretty confident with both of them,” said Hussey according to quotes on Cricbuzz.

What resulted in the lower back injury?

When asked about what resulted in MS Dhoni’s back injury, Hussey went on to add that the skipper’s soft bed made his back stiff and that aggravated during his knock in Mohali. However, Hussey added that the skipper would be fine for the game. But, we might miss MS Dhoni behind the stumps as he has a good chance of opting to stay on the field as a fielder.

“I believe the bed was quite soft in Mohali, that may have stiffed up his (Dhoni) back a little bit and maybe through batting he aggravated it a little bit. He has improved ever since, so he should be fine.”
