The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were stupendous in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They locked horns in the Grand Finale with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and registered a comprehensive victory by eight wickets. Meanwhile, they also stormed to their third title in the cash-rich T20 league.

The Sunrisers put a formidable target of 178 runs for CSK to trace down. The likes of Kane Williamson, Yusuf Pathan and Carlos Braithwaite’s blitz, in the end, helped SRH rack up the massive score. Shardul Thakur was awful in the death over in the Qualifier 1 against the same opposition at the same venue. However, yesterday he dished out immaculate line and lengths and hardly allowed the likes of Braithwaite to get underneath the ball and spank the ball away.

Chennai thump Sunrisers

Though the pacer went for six in the penultimate ball of the innings, he picked up the wicket of the Windies batsman in the last ball. The pitch was excellent for batting and Chennai had the armoury to chase down the target without much fuss. CSK started slowly and didn’t blaze away. Shane Watson took as many as ten deliveries to open his account.

He smacked Sandeep Sharma down the ground to score his first runs. Ever since he didn’t look back and inflicted mayhem in the Sunrisers camp with his wide range of strokes. He scored 117 runs from 57 balls and won the match for Chennai with nine balls to spare. Michael Hussey, who celebrated his 43rd birthday yesterday, appreciated Thakur and Watson for rising to the occasion. Here is what he wrote

“Hope all @ChennaiIPL fans enjoy the Ipl win tonight. Well done to @msdhoni @SPFleming7 and the whole team for a great season special mention to @ShaneRWatson33 and you can’t underestimate the last over from @imShard #execute under pressure”
