In light of the recent events, Cricket Australia decided to ban former skipper Steve Smith for one year. Furthermore, the BCCI made it clear that Steve Smith and David Warner wouldn’t be allowed to participate in the IPL. Considering the circumstances, both Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad announced replacements for these two players.

The Rajasthan Royals management decided to replace Smith with Heinrich Klaasen in their ranks. Klaasen is a hard-hitter of the cricket ball and was quite impressive against India recently. He didn’t look out of sorts against the wrist spinners who troubled most of the batsmen. Moreover, he doubles up as the wicketkeeper and adds a lot of value to the side.

‘Luke Ronchi would have been a better choice’

Although many lauded RR for roping in Klaasen, Dean Jones wasn’t impressed with the move. Even though Klaasen looked in great form, he didn’t manage to impress Jones. Dean Jones on Twitter said that Luke Ronchi would’ve been his choice. Jones also cited PSL form to justify his choice. He added that numbers don’t lie.

Luke Ronchi, who is also a wicketkeeper retired from international cricket recently. Although his name was called in the IPL auction, he failed to attract any bidders. Post the IPL auction, Ronchi took part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this year. Furthermore, he ended up being the highest run scorer in the tournament with 435 runs to his name at an average over 40.

He looked to be in some stupendous form with the bat and many felt that he would be an ideal replacement for a player in the IPL. However, that wasn’t to be the case and Dean Jones looked quite unimpressed. ‘Wrong move! @ronchi04 would have been my choice! His numbers don’t lie!,’ wrote Dean Jones on his Twitter handle. Now that a decision has been made, only time will tell us how effective it will turn out to be.
