The Rajasthan Royals have kept their playoff chances alive by defeating RCB in the virtual knockout today. Also, RCB is out of the playoff contention with this defeat and can only hope for something miraculous to happen. However, since this victory doesn’t guarantee the Royals a playoff berth, they would be praying for the other results to go their way.

After winning the toss, Royals elected to bat first and had put up a decent total of 164 on the board. It seemed that RCB would comfortably chase this total down at the halfway mark. But, as usual, the pitch at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium was tricky. RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for just 134. RR’s leggie, Shreyas Gopal broke the back of RCB lineup and returned with figures of 4/16.

Shreyas Gopal explains his ‘disbelief’ act after dismissing AB de Villiers

Shreyas Gopal picked four of the most dangerous batsmen in the RCB batting lineup. These included the wickets of Moeen Ali, Parthiv Patel and Mandeep Singh. However, out of all, AB de Villiers’ wicket would have been the most prized scalp for Gopal and he seemed to be very delighted with it. Shreyas delivered a classic googly that deceived AB, who was looking to drive a ball towards the covers. The ball went past him and Heinrich Klaasen made no mistake behind the stumps. That was the turning point in the match as AB was looking dangerous.

Shreyas revealed that there was no set plan to dismiss the legendary ABD. He added that assistance from the track had helped him a bit. “You can never have a set plan for someone like ABD. So, I was a bit shocked. There was a little bit of help from the wicket. There was a little bit of spin. I kept it at the wickets and relied on my googly and flipper as much as I could,” he said after picking up his Man of the Match trophy.

“Obviously feels great. We knew this game was a pressure game for us. Actually both the teams. It feels even better than the team needed me and I performed. I would not have been feeling half as better had the team lost,” he said while speaking about the win.

Shreyas also spoke about his spin-twin Ish Sodhi and added that he was like his brother. “We are like brothers now. I keep picking his brains. He is wonderful with the way he puts in an effort with every ball that he bowls. There are a lot of things that I can learn from him,” he concluded.
