Delhi Daredevils hadn’t had the best of IPL seasons this year. This has been the case with the franchise for the last few years. However, many expected things to change this year with Gautam Gambhir coming in. He was expected to change the fortunes for the side this time around. They also had the squad to do the same.

However, it was no different for DD even this time as Gautam Gambhir stepped down as the skipper after losing five out the first six games. The management failed to pick the right XI capable of winning games. Many talented players were benched for a majority of the season and they ended up last on the points table this year.

Mohammed Shami who was retained by DD using the RTM card ended up as a huge disappointment. He came into the tournament with the allegations of ‘domestic violence’ and that could have somewhat affected his performances. DD chose to use RTM card for Mohammed Shami after SRH bought him at INR 3 crores which turned out to be a wrong move. In four games this season, he only picked 3 wickets and his economy rate was close to 11.

Here are the three players for whom DD could have used their RTM card instead of Mohammed Shami:

1. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson was bought at the IPL auction by Rajasthan Royals for INR 8 crores. Samson played for the Daredevils in 2016 and 2017 after RR was banned from the league. He was one of the top performers for Delhi is those two seasons.

However, Delhi didn’t opt to retain this wicket-keeper batsman from Kerala. Samson carried on with his form this year also for the Royals. He has scored 441 runs this year in 15 games at an average close to 32 this year and played some crucial knocks for RR in the middle order. His 92* against RCB is one of his best innings you will ever watch.
