With only just over a fortnight to go for the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, the franchises are currently busy shortlisting the names for the upcoming auction. The event is scheduled to take place on December 18 in Jaipur as the final list of players going under the hammer is yet to be unveiled. However, one name is certain to be in most of the team’s list and that is of the Mumbai all-rounder Shivam Dubey.

The 25-year-old has been hogging all the limelight this season thanks to a stupendous Mumbai T20 League and the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. He has brought his all-around game to the for his team and has scalped 12 wickets with his pace bowling to go with 364 runs in five outings at an average of 91 with two centuries and the same number of fifty-plus scores.

Pace-bowling all-rounder who can tonk the ball a long way is a dream to have in the shortest format of the game and no wonder Dubey will earn huge bids in the auction this time around.

Here we bring you the three teams who might try and secure his services:

1. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians always love to pick the local talent in the auction and groom them. There is no doubt that they will be the first team to bid on Shivam Dubey. If their team combination is considered, MI can still pick six Indians in their squad with Rs 11.15 Crores remaining in the purse. With Hardik Pandya, also the pace-bowling all-rounder, in the team, one would argue the need of Dubey in the squad.

Pandya is currently injured and will be definitely carefully managed during the IPL ahead of the World Cup next year. He might be rested for considerable matches unless it is a must-win situation and this is where Dubey could be useful. A like-for-like replacement will be available for them then and the management won’t have to worry about the combination moments away from the game.

2. Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings are the likeliest franchise to go for the Mumbai lad. They have retained 23 players from last year and have only a couple of slots left in which they can only pick the Indian cricketers. They have Rs 8.4 Crores up their sleeves and can go for him aiming for their only pick in the auction.

There is also a possibility that Shane Watson might not bowl at all next season due to his injury concerns and in that case, Dubey can play a crucial role for them. He could also be used as a floater in the batting order and most importantly, the cricketer will grow under the smart leadership of MS Dhoni. Not that the other captains aren’t as good in the tournament, but the impact Dhoni’s presence makes on the mind of a youngster, has no match.

3. Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils are the other team who are always interested in investing in local talent. Even now they have some of the best uncapped players in their squad. The franchise will be one of the many teams to go a long way in bidding for Shivam Dubey and might well grab his services as they have a purse of Rs 25.50 Crores available at the moment.

To add to it, the Daredevils are also in need of a proper all-rounder after trading Vijay Shankar among the three Indian players for Shikhar Dhawan. Dubey is a complete package at the moment for the teams in need of an all-rounder and Delhi is one of them. He could play the finisher’s role for the team and everyone is aware of his hitting abilities after the Mumbai T20 League and more will be on show during the IPL.
