Kings XI Punjab registered their 3rd win of the season after sneaking through a 14-run win from jaws of defeat against the Delhi Capitals. The home team posted 166/9 in their 20 overs with David Miller (43) and Sarfaraz Khan (39) playing a key role. Two fifty-run partnerships for the first four wickets put the Delhi team on top as they needed only 23 from the last 21 deliveries with seven wickets in hand. But Sam Curran’s 4-wicket haul including a hat-trick witnessed the visitors lose their last seven wickets for only eight runs.

KXIP’s winning streak continues:

5 – The Kings XI Punjab have defeated the Delhi franchise in each of their previous five IPL matches in Mohali. They defeated the home team back in 2010 edition but lost all the five played since 2014.


6 – The Kings XI now have won each of their previous six IPL matches at the PCA Stadium in Mohali; their longest winning streak at this venue in IPL. They won their last six matches during the inaugural edition in 2008.


A rare hat-trick:

20y 302d – At the age of 20 years and 302 days, Sam Curran became the youngest player to pick up a hat-trick in the IPL. Rohit Sharma was the previous youngest to take an IPL hat-trick when he was 22 years and 6 days old during 2009 season while playing for the Deccan Chargers against Mumbai Indians.


2 – Curran is only the 2nd player to open the innings with the bat and claim a hat-trick in the same IPL game. Yuvraj Singh opened the innings during the 2009 season also for the Kings XI Punjab after claiming a hat-trick during RCB’s innings who batted first.


3Sam Curran is only the 3rd player to claim a hat-trick in the IPL by dismissing three batsmen for a duck. Amit Mishra for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Pune Warriors in 2013 and Pravin Tambe for Rasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 are the other two players with all duck hat-trick in the IPL.


Ducks galore:

5 – Number of players bagged a duck during the Delhi Capitals’ innings; only the 4th instance of five or more players getting out for a duck in the IPL. Six Kochi Tuskers players got out for a duck in the 2011 edition against Deccan Chargers. RCB against Kings XI in 2008 and the Delhi team against Mumbai Indians in the 2011 season had five ducks apiece in their innings.


Ashwin starts with a wicket:

7 – Number of wickets for Ravichandran Ashwin in the first over of an IPL inning; the most for any spinner. However, the wicket of Prithvi Shaw is his first wicket on the first legal delivery of the opponent’s innings in this league.
