The Chennai Super Kings don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon this season as they clinched their 7th win in eight matches they played. Chris Lynn’s 51-ball 82 helped the Kolkata Knight Riders to finish on 161/8 as no other batsman scored more than 21 for them. Suresh Raina bailed the visiting team out of early trouble with his first fifty of the season. He scored an unbeaten 42-ball 58 to guide CSK to a 5-wicket win with two balls to spare.
Here are all the major stats and numbers from CSK’s 2nd straight win of the season against KKR:
A rare win for CSK in Kolkata:
2013 – This win is Chennai Super Kings’ first win in six matches they played since the 2013 IPL edition at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Since defeating KKR in the league game in 2013, CSK lost five matches at this venue – three against KKR and two against MI in the finals.
Raina’s happy hunting team:
818 – The 818 runs aggregated by Suresh Raina against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL are the most by any player against a single opposition. Raina’s 803 against Mumbai Indians and Virat Kohli’s 802 runs against the Delhi Capitals/Daredevils are the 2nd and 3rd in this list.
Narine @ 50:
51 – With the wicket of Faf du Plessis, the off-spinner Sunil Narine completed 50 wickets in the IPL at the Eden Gardens. He is only the 3rd player after Lasith Malinga (61 in Mumbai) and Amit Mishra (52 in Delhi) to bag 50+ IPL wickets at a single venue. He also became the first player to claim 50 wickets in the Twenty20 format at the Eden Gardens.
Narine finally gets better off Dhoni:
1 – MS Dhoni got out to Sunil Narine for the first time in the IPL. Prior to this game, Dhoni scored 29 runs from 57 deliveries against Narine including 29 dot balls and without hitting a boundary.
4-fer in catches:
4 – Faf du Plessis claimed as many as four catches in the KKR innings which are joint-most by any fielder in an IPL game. Sachin Tendulkar, David Warner and Jacques Kallis took four catches apiece in 2008, 2010 and 2011 respectively. Rahul Tewatia and David Miller also claimed four catches each during this season in the games against MI in Mumbai.
Lynn @ 1000 for KKR:
1,081 – With the first boundary of the game, Chris Lynn completed 1,000 runs in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Prior to this game, Lynn aggregated 1005 runs in the IPL with 999 of those coming for the KKR team. Lynn was stuck on 999 runs as he bagged a duck against CSK during the game in Chepauk and missed the previous game due to an injury.
