Royal Challengers Bangalore bagged their 2nd straight close win surviving special knocks at the death while defending a total. Parthiv Patel’s 37-ball 53 played a key role for the hosts in powering their total to 161/7. The RCB pace attack was all over the CSK top-order as the visitors were four down for 28 in the powerplay. MS Dhoni put on a crucial 55-run stand for the 5th wicket with Ambati Rayudu and started to take the game deep. With 26 needed from the last over, he smashed 24 off first five balls against Umesh Yadav only to miss out on the last delivery.

Here are the major stats and numbers recorded during a thrilling finish at the Chinnaswamy Stadium:

A rare CSK defeat in all sorts:

1 – The one-run defeat in this game is the narrowest IPL defeat for the Chennai Super Kings. They lost to Kings XI Punjab by four runs during the game in Mohali last season. This is the 2nd time that the RCB team won by a one-run margin which was during the 2016 season also against KXIP in Mohali.

7 – Royal Challengers Bangalore brought an end to their seven-match losing streak in the IPL against the Chennai Super Kings. The Last RCB win over the CSK team in the IPL came way back in May 2014. This was also the first IPL win in Bangalore for RCB over CSK since 2013.

Nearly the biggest finish:

24 – The 24 runs in the final over of the chase are the joint 2nd most scored in the 20th over of an IPL chase. As many as 26 runs were scored by Deccan Chargers against Mashrafe Mortaza of KKR in 2009 while Ashish Nehra conceded 24 runs for PWI against RCB during the 2012 season in the 20th over while they were chasing 21.

Dhoni @ 4000:

4044MS Dhoni completed 4000 runs in the IPL as captain when he went past 44 in this game. He is the first player to score 4000 IPL runs as captain. Dhoni achieved the feat in his 150th IPL innings as skipper.

A milestone game for ABD:

150 – This game was the 150th appearance in the IPL for AB de Villiers. He became the 13th player and the first overseas player to feature in 150 IPL matches.

MSD @ 200:

203 – MS Dhoni became the first Indian to hit 200 sixes in the IPL with 4th of the seven sixes he hit in this game. Overall, Chris Gayle (323) and AB de Villiers (204) are the only players to hit 200+ sixes in the IPL before Dhoni.

Dhoni’s best ever:

84* – MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 84-run knock in this game is his highest individual Twenty20 score. His previous highest T20 score was 79* against the Kings XI Punjab from the previous edition.
