Wow!! Just Wow!! Rajasthan Royals (RR) have somehow managed to keep themselves alive in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) with a thrilling win in the last over against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Eden Gardens witnessed a thriller where the home team dominated the whole of second innings only to botch up their position in the last five overs thanks to Jofra Archer and the young Riyan Parag.

The chase began superbly for the visitors. Ajinkya Rahane took the attack to the opposition as they crossed the 50-run mark within the powerplay overs. Sanju Samson also hit a few lusty blows before both the openers were sent packing Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine. The latter also castled the RR skipper Steve Smith as the hosts came back storming in the game. Rather, they were bossing the game at that stage.

Things turned from bad to worse as Ben Stokes also holed out in the deep. With the required run-rate soaring high, the onus was on the youngster Parag to take the game deep. He stitched small partnerships with Stuart Binny and Shreyas Gopal but it never looked as if RR was winning the game.

With more than four overs to go, Jofra Archer joined Parag and the duo stitched a game-changing stand. They added 44 runs in just 21 deliveries before Parag was hit-wicket off Andre Russell’s bowling as the equation came down to getting 9 runs off 6 balls. Prasidh Krishna was entrusted with the responsibility by KKR. But Archer slammed 10 runs off the first two balls itself to keep RR alive.

DK lights up the Eden

The story of the top-order failures continued for KKR even today. Shubman Gill opened the innings along with Chris Lynn and the latter was castled by Varun Aaron in the first over itself. Nitish Rana also couldn’t do much even as Gill also walked back to the dressing room. Dinesh Karthik took the responsibility and came out to bat at four. He struggled early on and was batting at 3 off 12 balls.

However, once he found his groove, the skipper smacked the ball to all the parts of the ground to remain unbeaten on 97 off just 50 balls. His innings was laced with seven fours and nine towering sixes as KKR finished on 175 runs for the loss of six wickets after 20 overs. Varun Aaron and Oshane Thomas bowled superbly to pick early wickets in the innings which helped them restrict KKR early on.

They missed the Russell storm who scored only 14 runs and was dropped twice before getting caught on the third occasion. His failure made the difference in the end as RR overhauled the target superbly in the end.
