We are into the final week of the group stages and things seem to be getting interesting as far as the playoffs are concerned. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are separated by only two points on the points table. Both teams are eyeing a playoffs spot and only two positions are up for grabs with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals already through.
After being on the road for a couple of weeks, the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians return home for their last two league games. It’s been a stop-start couple of weeks for MI as they’ve won and lost alternatively. They lost their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders after the bowlers conceded 232. However, they are very well placed at number three on the points table and one win will help them book a place in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers got back to winning ways in the last game after a couple of back to back losses. They were absolutely clinical and now, are on 12 points with two games to go. Moreover, their net run rate of +0.709 is the best among all teams. Hence, in all probability, if qualification comes down to net run rates, they will not have a big problem.
David Warner has flown back to Australia to prepare for the upcoming World Cup. His departure has created a huge void at the top for SRH. Hence, it’ll be interesting to see how they cope up in the absence of their talismanic opener. For MI, Jason Behrendorff flew back but apart from that, there are no other concerns for the hosts. Hence, we should in for a cracking game with both teams eyeing a win as SRH look to inch closer to a top-four spot while MI look to seal a playoff spot.
How’s the weather expected to be?
We are in the middle of the Indian summer. Hence, it is going to be very hot and humid at the Wankhede Stadium today. Temperatures are expected to hover around in the mid-30s. However, it is the humidity which will be a concern. According to AccuWeather, humidity is expected to be around 80-90% during the game. Hence, players will have to cope up with the humid conditions.
