Windies big-hitting batsman Shimron Hetmyer was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2019 auction. Considering the kind of form he has been in this year, there were high expectations for him. Hence, quite evidently, five teams bid for this Caribbean star. Ultimately, the RCB procured him for INR 4.20 crores.
Hetmyer had a brilliant run in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) this year. Even though he didn’t really fare well in the T20I series against India, he still managed to keep the franchises interested in him. He has got this brilliant ability to clear the ropes with ease. Furthermore, he is a lightening fielder and is amazingly accurate.
Hetmyer looking forward to the season
Shimron Hetmyer is a great addition to the RCB line-up. The side’s batting has been overreliant on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers for quite a long time now. Despite several trails, they haven’t found someone who is reliable enough in the middle-order.
Hetmyer could provide the solutions for all of these troubles for the team. He can get going within no time and is equally good against the spinners as well. He could possibly take up the role of a finisher for the side. The batting lineup looks much stronger now with Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel opening the innings. AB de Villiers is there to follow. Maybe an uncapped Indian player can be tried out at four.
Hetmyer might possibly come in at five and will be followed by Marcus Stoinis. Thus, this adds the much-needed strength during the end overs. It has been a dream for the Caribbean player to feature in the IPL. He seemed to be delighted after getting picked by the RCB and also shared his happiness on Instagram.
“Thanks to the guys @royalchallengersbangalore for picking me to represent them in the 2019 edition of IPL…Looking forward to seeing you guys #playbold,” he wrote in his story.
