As expected, Windies T20 star Shimron Hetmyer invited a bidding war at the IPL 2019 auction. The stakes were high for the youngster after his heroics in various T20 leagues around the world. He has got the ability to clear the ropes with ease and can turn the state of the game on its head within so time.

Shimron Hetmyer was sold to the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Rs 4.20 crores. There were quite a few teams interested in acquiring the left-hander. Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad were all interested in picking him.

It was the Punjab franchise and the Delhi franchise who started off the bidding initially. Delhi pulled out at INR 85 lakhs and there the Royals joined the party. They bid till INR 2.20 crores before they decided they couldn’t go any further. Immediately, the Sunrisers Hyderabad joined that war and went on till INR 3.80 crores.

Kings XI Punjab was interested throughout. But, when RCB decided to join in at INR 4.20 crores, they decided to pull out. The Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired him right in their first bid.

What does Hetmyer bring to the table for RCB?

The Royal Challengers Bangalore are a top-heavy batting lineup. They haven’t got many reliable resources in the middle order and it has been the troubled territory for them for quite some time. Overreliance on Virat Kohli and AB de Villers didn’t help their cause much.

Hence, with Hetmyer in, he could well solidify that middle-order with some big hitting. He also provides them with the finisher option as they lack a decent one. The fans were delighted to see this big-hitting West Indian in the RCB side. They are all thrilled to watch him strike some lusty blows at the small Chinnaswamy stadium.
