This edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been pretty entertaining and exhilarating for the fans, but there were many forgettable moments as well. While the quality of fielding keeps tipping from one high to another low, umpiring standards came into serious questioning and the situation is pretty much the same with the tournament nearing a finish.

Despite having some of the biggest and well-reputed ICC Elite Panel umpires in the tournament, to witness such debates and controversies is pretty sad. Yet, another facet not many have been discussing is the performance of a few players, who are touted superstars or promising young lads in their sides but have been very poor this season.

Here is a list of the XI players, who have been at the centre of a lot of good stuff in the past, but have been thoroughly underperforming this season, thus not helping their side&#8217;s objectives.

Mumbai Indians skipper <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/hardik-pandya-suggests-rohit-sharma-to-join-avengers-after-amazing-win-over-csk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Rohit Sharma</strong></a> has done a great job in leading his side to such a dominant position in the league table. Yet, there are huge concerns over his batting form. For those who have followed Rohit for a long time, they would know he plays one absolute match-winning knock to break the shackles in a dry patch and maybe, his fifty against CSK was one such.

There&#8217;s no doubting his quality though, as he still remains as one of only two captains in IPL history to win three titles and also has the most Man of the Match awards to his name among Indian cricketers. He scored 295 runs thus far in 10 matches at an average under 30, which is pretty under par for a player of his stature.<br>

Prithvi Shaw is undoubtedly one of the finest batsmen in the country at the moment. But his ongoing IPL season has been no less than an aberration. Apart from his 99-run knock against KKR earlier this season, Shaw has struggled to make an impact completely. With Shikhar Dhawan shining at the other end, it is baffling to see this talented kid fail.

He has mustered only 280 runs in 12 outings at a mediocre average of 23.33. Though the strike-rate of 135.27 looks good, the Capitals would&#8217;ve preferred more runs from him. With the team already qualified for the playoffs, Shaw would love to get back into the groove and contribute as much as he can to the team&#8217;s cause.<br>

Hailed as the IPL legend and Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina over the years has done some wonderful things for the Chennai Super Kings in this lucrative tournament. For some reason, maybe due to the lack of match practice in recent times, he has failed to replicate his heroics this season for the CSK.

Chennai fans expect their &#8220;Chinna Thala&#8221; to be their top performer. It really bothers them to see him in such a bad form and in the two games he captained the side in MSD&#8217;s absence, he was horrific and CSK slumped to bad defeats. He has amassed 247 runs thus far in 12 innings at a disappointing average of 22.45.<br>

This will be scary for most Indian fans as <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/twitter-takes-dig-at-vijay-shankar-over-his-flop-show-in-ipl-2019/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Vijay Shankar</strong></a> might be playing at number four in the World Cup which begins in around a month. He started the tournament on a very promising note, chipping in with a few cameos for the side. But since then, he has failed to muster runs regularly and is now struggling to have any impact on the side.

Shankar is barely bowling in the tournament for the Sunrisers, which is not helping the &#8220;3D player&#8221; compliment given by MSK Prasad. He definitely has the ability to play good knock for the team and is pretty fearless when it comes to striking the ball, but he needs more runs to gain some confidence. He registered 173 runs in 11 games at an average of 19.22 and the stats speak for his abysmal run.<br>

5. Ambati Rayudu (wk) (Chennai Super Kings)

Look what fortune can do to a person inside 12 months. Last year at this point in time, articles were written on <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/lockie-ferguson-takes-an-indirect-dig-at-ambati-rayudu-says-i-am-a-3d-player-too/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Ambati Rayudu</strong></a>&#8216;s dream run and his potential comeback to the Indian side. He did get back to the Indian setup, was touted as India&#8217;s number four for the World Cup, it seemed like he pretty much made it, but failed in the final hurdle.

Ambati Rayudu has definitely not lived up to his reputation this season. Not getting selected in the World Cup maybe was playing in his mind and fans have been very disappointed with his performances in 2019. He has scored 213 runs this season at an average of 21.3, but most importantly, his strike-rate has been 89.5 this tournament, which is a bit too disastrous for any batsman in T20s.<br>

Ben Stokes lit up the tournament in 2017 when he helped the Rising Pune Supergiant enter the finals with ease. He won the MVP award that season and was worth every penny invested on him. But in his second season running for the Rajasthan Royals, Stokes has not been in good touch and has become a liability to the side.

Stokes has left for England owing to the International commitments alongside his other English teammates. It also brings about a debate if he will be in RR&#8217;s squad next season, considering the huge price tag he carries. In 9 matches for the franchise this season, he scored just 123 runs and picked just 6 wickets.<br>

One of Mumbai Indians&#8217; most important players in the current setup, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/when-krunal-pandya-fails-to-mankad-dhoni-as-csk-skipper-was-pretty-well-in-crease/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Krunal Pandya</strong></a> thus far has failed to make his impact. Whilst his brother Hardik Pandya has been tremendous with the bat and ball, Krunal Pandya is struggling to make his presence felt.

Unlike Hardik, Krunal bats a little higher in the lineup and is known better as a playmaker who takes his time before launching an assault. He has played some important knocks for Mumbai in the past, most memorably in 2017 final in Hyderabad. But this season, he could only manage 167 runs and 8 wickets in 12 matches as it stands.<br>

8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Some might wonder why <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2019-bhuvneshwar-kumar-backs-rashid-khan-after-poor-show-against-csk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Bhuvneshwar Kumar</strong></a> is present in this list, but truth to be told, he has been well below his best. Bhuvneshwar had an opportunity to captain the side in Kane Williamson&#8217;s absence in quite a few games. He didn&#8217;t look very comfortable in that role as well, making life difficult for the Orange Army.

Bhuvi has been their standout death bowler over the years and is also a 2-time purple cap winner in 2016 and 2017. He is one of the tournament&#8217;s highest wicket-takers and this season, he barely looked that dominant. He picked up 8 wickets in 11 matches at an economy of 7.72. Although he maintained a decent economy rate, him not picking wickets is always a matter of concern for SRH.<br>

Last year&#8217;s purple cap winner, Andrew Tye&#8217;s slower deliveries and knuckle balls left many bamboozled. The precision to his execution was stand out last season and if only he was half as good this season, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ravichandran-ashwin-is-a-great-leader-andrew-tye/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Kings XI Punjab</strong></a> would&#8217;ve been in a very different position on the table at this juncture.

Andrew Tye got to pay just four matches this season and picked up just two wickets. KXIP management has been a bit too experimental with their bowling line-up and that has halted Tye&#8217;s progress. He still has some games left in the tournament to prove his credentials and perhaps overshadow his underwhelming season.<br>

10. Tim Southee (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

One of New Zealand&#8217;s finest fast bowlers ever, Tim Southee and his experience came to no great use in the tournament this season. The few games he played for the team this season, he got hammered to all parts, the most famous one being Andre Russell taking him down to 29 runs in an over at the Chinnaswamy earlier.

There&#8217;s no denying the quality Southee adds to RCB, but it has very barely reflected on the performances. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/virat-kohli-to-exercise-his-voting-right-in-gurugram-on-may-12/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Virat Kohli</strong></a> needs marquee bowlers more than ever before and at this juncture, he is their only option. In the three games he played, he picked up just one wicket and conceded runs at an economy of 13.11, which is very uncharacteristic to his liking.<br>

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/looking-forward-to-see-you-at-world-cup-sachin-to-rashid-khan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Rashid Khan&#8217;</strong></a>s partner in crime for Afghanistan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman had a memorable first season in IPL for the Kings XI Punjab. The young off-spinner has a plethora of variations in his arsenal and can trouble the batsman in more ways than a normal off-break bowler can. Yet, this season hasn&#8217;t been pretty good for him.

Again, KXIP&#8217;s tactics come into serious question as they have been chopping and changing their combinations a bit too much. He played just four matches this season, conceding 125 runs and picking just 3 wickets at an economy of 8.33. For a spinner of his quality, these are pretty under par numbers.

<p>Some might wonder why <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2019-bhuvneshwar-kumar-backs-rashid-khan-after-poor-show-against-csk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Bhuvneshwar Kumar</strong></a> is present in this list, but truth to be told, he has been well below his best. Bhuvneshwar had an opportunity to captain the side in Kane Williamson’s absence in quite a few games. He didn’t look very comfortable in that role as well, making life difficult for the Orange Army.</p>
<p>Bhuvi has been their standout death bowler over the years and is also a 2-time purple cap winner in 2016 and 2017. He is one of the tournament’s highest wicket-takers and this season, he barely looked that dominant. He picked up 8 wickets in 11 matches at an economy of 7.72. Although he maintained a decent economy rate, him not picking wickets is always a matter of concern for SRH.<br>

<p>Last year’s purple cap winner, Andrew Tye’s slower deliveries and knuckle balls left many bamboozled. The precision to his execution was stand out last season and if only he was half as good this season, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ravichandran-ashwin-is-a-great-leader-andrew-tye/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Kings XI Punjab</strong></a> would’ve been in a very different position on the table at this juncture.</p>
<p>Andrew Tye got to pay just four matches this season and picked up just two wickets. KXIP management has been a bit too experimental with their bowling line-up and that has halted Tye’s progress. He still has some games left in the tournament to prove his credentials and perhaps overshadow his underwhelming season.<br>

<p>One of New Zealand’s finest fast bowlers ever, Tim Southee and his experience came to no great use in the tournament this season. The few games he played for the team this season, he got hammered to all parts, the most famous one being Andre Russell taking him down to 29 runs in an over at the Chinnaswamy earlier.</p>
<p>There’s no denying the quality Southee adds to RCB, but it has very barely reflected on the performances. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/virat-kohli-to-exercise-his-voting-right-in-gurugram-on-may-12/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Virat Kohli</strong></a> needs marquee bowlers more than ever before and at this juncture, he is their only option. In the three games he played, he picked up just one wicket and conceded runs at an economy of 13.11, which is very uncharacteristic to his liking.<br>

<p><a href="https://www.crictracker.com/looking-forward-to-see-you-at-world-cup-sachin-to-rashid-khan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Rashid Khan’</strong></a>s partner in crime for Afghanistan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman had a memorable first season in IPL for the Kings XI Punjab. The young off-spinner has a plethora of variations in his arsenal and can trouble the batsman in more ways than a normal off-break bowler can. Yet, this season hasn’t been pretty good for him.</p>
<p>Again, KXIP’s tactics come into serious question as they have been chopping and changing their combinations a bit too much. He played just four matches this season, conceding 125 runs and picking just 3 wickets at an economy of 8.33. For a spinner of his quality, these are pretty under par numbers.</p>

<p>This edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been pretty entertaining and exhilarating for the fans, but there were many forgettable moments as well. While the quality of fielding keeps tipping from one high to another low, umpiring standards came into serious questioning and the situation is pretty much the same with the tournament nearing a finish.</p>
<p>Despite having some of the biggest and well-reputed ICC Elite Panel umpires in the tournament, to witness such debates and controversies is pretty sad. Yet, another facet not many have been discussing is the performance of a few players, who are touted superstars or promising young lads in their sides but have been very poor this season.</p>
<p>Here is a list of the XI players, who have been at the centre of a lot of good stuff in the past, but have been thoroughly underperforming this season, thus not helping their side&#8217;s objectives.</p>

<p>Mumbai Indians skipper <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/hardik-pandya-suggests-rohit-sharma-to-join-avengers-after-amazing-win-over-csk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Rohit Sharma</strong></a> has done a great job in leading his side to such a dominant position in the league table. Yet, there are huge concerns over his batting form. For those who have followed Rohit for a long time, they would know he plays one absolute match-winning knock to break the shackles in a dry patch and maybe, his fifty against CSK was one such.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s no doubting his quality though, as he still remains as one of only two captains in IPL history to win three titles and also has the most Man of the Match awards to his name among Indian cricketers. He scored 295 runs thus far in 10 matches at an average under 30, which is pretty under par for a player of his stature.<br>

<h3>2. Prithvi Shaw (Delhi Capitals)</h3>

<p>Prithvi Shaw is undoubtedly one of the finest batsmen in the country at the moment. But his ongoing IPL season has been no less than an aberration. Apart from his 99-run knock against KKR earlier this season, Shaw has struggled to make an impact completely. With Shikhar Dhawan shining at the other end, it is baffling to see this talented kid fail.</p>
<p>He has mustered only 280 runs in 12 outings at a mediocre average of 23.33. Though the strike-rate of 135.27 looks good, the Capitals would&#8217;ve preferred more runs from him. With the team already qualified for the playoffs, Shaw would love to get back into the groove and contribute as much as he can to the team&#8217;s cause.<br>

<h3>3. Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings)</h3>

<p>Hailed as the IPL legend and Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina over the years has done some wonderful things for the Chennai Super Kings in this lucrative tournament. For some reason, maybe due to the lack of match practice in recent times, he has failed to replicate his heroics this season for the CSK.</p>
<p>Chennai fans expect their &#8220;Chinna Thala&#8221; to be their top performer. It really bothers them to see him in such a bad form and in the two games he captained the side in MSD&#8217;s absence, he was horrific and CSK slumped to bad defeats. He has amassed 247 runs thus far in 12 innings at a disappointing average of 22.45.<br>

<h3>4. Vijay Shankar (Sunrisers Hyderabad)</h3>

<p>This will be scary for most Indian fans as <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/twitter-takes-dig-at-vijay-shankar-over-his-flop-show-in-ipl-2019/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Vijay Shankar</strong></a> might be playing at number four in the World Cup which begins in around a month. He started the tournament on a very promising note, chipping in with a few cameos for the side. But since then, he has failed to muster runs regularly and is now struggling to have any impact on the side.</p>
<p>Shankar is barely bowling in the tournament for the Sunrisers, which is not helping the &#8220;3D player&#8221; compliment given by MSK Prasad. He definitely has the ability to play good knock for the team and is pretty fearless when it comes to striking the ball, but he needs more runs to gain some confidence. He registered 173 runs in 11 games at an average of 19.22 and the stats speak for his abysmal run.<br>

<h3>5. Ambati Rayudu (wk) (Chennai Super Kings)</h3>

<p>Look what fortune can do to a person inside 12 months. Last year at this point in time, articles were written on <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/lockie-ferguson-takes-an-indirect-dig-at-ambati-rayudu-says-i-am-a-3d-player-too/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Ambati Rayudu</strong></a>&#8216;s dream run and his potential comeback to the Indian side. He did get back to the Indian setup, was touted as India&#8217;s number four for the World Cup, it seemed like he pretty much made it, but failed in the final hurdle.</p>
<p>Ambati Rayudu has definitely not lived up to his reputation this season. Not getting selected in the World Cup maybe was playing in his mind and fans have been very disappointed with his performances in 2019. He has scored 213 runs this season at an average of 21.3, but most importantly, his strike-rate has been 89.5 this tournament, which is a bit too disastrous for any batsman in T20s.<br>

<h3>6. Ben Stokes (Rajasthan Royals)</h3>

<p>Ben Stokes lit up the tournament in 2017 when he helped the Rising Pune Supergiant enter the finals with ease. He won the MVP award that season and was worth every penny invested on him. But in his second season running for the Rajasthan Royals, Stokes has not been in good touch and has become a liability to the side.</p>
<p>Stokes has left for England owing to the International commitments alongside his other English teammates. It also brings about a debate if he will be in RR&#8217;s squad next season, considering the huge price tag he carries. In 9 matches for the franchise this season, he scored just 123 runs and picked just 6 wickets.<br>

<h3>7. Krunal Pandya (Mumbai Indians)</h3>

<p>One of Mumbai Indians&#8217; most important players in the current setup, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/when-krunal-pandya-fails-to-mankad-dhoni-as-csk-skipper-was-pretty-well-in-crease/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Krunal Pandya</strong></a> thus far has failed to make his impact. Whilst his brother Hardik Pandya has been tremendous with the bat and ball, Krunal Pandya is struggling to make his presence felt.</p>
