Despite being a consistent performer for Tamil Nadu in age-group cricket, Shah Rukh Khan shot into the limelight during 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) due to his exploits with the willow for the Lyca Kovai Kings franchise. The Chennai-born player amassed 325 runs in nine innings at a strike-rate of 141.30 during season three of TNPL where his team finished third.

The 24-year-old who scored 244 runs in eight innings (including two half-centuries) during 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Dinesh Karthik’s men grabbed the headlines during the tournament with his scintillating 69* off just 45 balls against Bengal at Jaipur despite coming lower down the order.  His knock which comprised four fours and five sixes at a strike-rate of 153.33 caught the attention of many in the Indian cricketing fraternity.

Despite being on the radar of several IPL franchises, the talented all-rounder went unsold at 2020 IPL auction with a base price of INR 20 lakhs. Given his familiarity with the Chepauk conditions, part-time off-spin spells and having roved his big-hitting abilities in the domestic tournaments, the local lad would have been a valuable addition for Chennai Super Kings who need firepower to their beleaguered middle-order.
