IPL 2020: 5 Players with base price of more than Rs 1 crore who might go unsold

The IPL auction is just around the corner and thus, it’s no surprise that the buzz around the Indian T20 league is back. A little over a fortnight ago, all the eight teams released a player list which consisted of the players retained. The trading window was done and dusted as well.

Now, the player list for the auction has been released. As many as 971 players, including 258 overseas stars have registered for the upcoming player auction. However, out of those, only 73 slots will be filled up. While the big news has been Mitchell Starc and Joe Root opting out of the IPL, there are other big stars who have put themselves in top base prices bracket.

The likes of Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Lynn, Dale Steyn are among the many who put themselves under the INR 2 crore bracket. Meanwhile, the likes of Robin Uthappa, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Chris Morris are among the ones who put themselves in the INR 1.5 crore bracket.

There are quite a few more in these two top brackets but may well go unsold. Thus, here are five such players from these two top brackets who may not attract any bid in the upcoming auction.

Josh Hazlewood

Very few people know that Josh Hazlewood made his international debut almost a decade ago. It was against England in an ODI at Southampton that the tall, lanky fast bowler got his maiden Australia cap. However, as the years have gone by, Hazlewood has turned into a red-ball specialist and now, he doesn’t even play the other formats in international cricket.

In fact, T20 is his weakest link. While he is still decent in the 50-over version, the shortest format doesn’t suit the New South Wales lad. Hazlewood has played just seven T20Is for Australia and 30 T20s in all. Moreover, his last T20 appearance was back in the World T20 in 2016.

Hence, with Hazlewood not playing much T20 and white-ball cricket in general over the last few years, he is unlikely to attract any bid in the upcoming auction. He went unsold even in the 2018 edition when his base price was the same – INR 2 crore. The high base price will also be a factor that could go against him.
