IPL 2020: Match 20, MI vs RR – Mumbai Indians Player Ratings

Mumbai Indians (MI) have again found their way atop the points table in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Rohit Sharma-led unit defeated the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 57 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

It can be said that after their five-wicket defeat against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the same venue, the Mumbai team have looked a lot more clinical. After electing to bat first, MI hammered their way to 193 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Though they lost one wicket, they got 57 runs in the powerplay after which they didn’t look back.

In the run-chase, MI would have been on their toes when Jos Buttler threatened with a 44-ball 70. However, once he perished Rohit’s men got over the line without much trouble and secured their fourth win of the season.

Rohit Sharma- 8/10

Rohit Sharma tried to take the attack to the opposition bowling and was successful to some extent. But he fell prey to leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal in the 10th over. The MI captain smashed 35 runs off 23 balls. His knock was laced with two fours and three huge sixes. He played at a strike-rate of 152.17.

Quinton de Kock- 7/10

Quinton de Kock came into the game on the back of a sparkling half-century against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He looked positive even on Tuesday and laid into Jofra Archer as well. In the end, he scored 23 off 15 with three fours and a six before IPL debutant Kartik Tyagi accounted for him.

Suryakumar Yadav- 9.5/10

Suryakumar Yadav was at his very best as he scored 79 runs off 47 balls at a strike-rate of 168.08. His knock was decorated with 11 fours and a couple of massive hits over the ropes. Surya came to bat after de Kock’s dismissal and got to his fifty off 33 balls before he went berserk in the death overs.

Ishan Kishan- 1/10

Ishan Kishan didn’t quite have the most memorable day with the bat in hand. The southpaw came to bat after Rohit’s wicket and was expected to carry on the good work done by the MI opener. But the batter couldn’t open his account and perished for a golden duck, giving Shreyas Gopal his second wicket.

Krunal Pandya- 3/10

Krunal Pandya faltered in both departments- batting and bowling. He smashed a solitary six, but otherwise found it tough to get the ball away. The left-hander scored 12 runs off as many as 17 balls at a strike-rate of 70.58. Even with his left-arm spin, he gave 22 runs in the two overs he bowled.

Hardik Pandya- 8.5/10

Hardik Pandya had an impressive day with the bat. He came to bat in the 14th over and was expected to inject some impetus into the innings. Hardik got the big shots going and stayed unbeaten on 30 runs off 19 balls with two fours and a six. His power shots did wonders for MI.

Kieron Pollard- 5/10

It raised a few eyebrows when Kieron Pollard didn’t come to bat even after Mumbai lost four wickets. But he made his presence felt on the field. To start with, he took a decent catch in the deep to send Buttler packing. In the two overs he bowled, he gave 24 runs and picked up Tom Curran’s wicket.

James Pattinson- 9/10

James Pattinson was pretty much on his mark as well. He bowled 3.1 overs and gave away 19 runs. The pacer got the all-important wicket of Buttler to make MI the firm favourites to win the match. Then he also picked up RR’s last wicket in the form of Ankit Rajpoot. He also bowled nine dot balls.

Rahul Chahar- 7.5/10

Rahul Chahar bowled reasonably in the middle overs. In three overs, he gave away 24 runs at an economy of eight. He conceded a couple of sixes and bowled six dot balls. In between, he pinned Mahipal Lomror, who played a decent hand against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the same venue.

Trent Boult- 9/10

Trent Boult bowled with pace and venom. He nipped out Yashasvi Jaiswal to strike first blood. Then he removed the dangerous Sanju Samson, who couldn’t get off the mark. The speedster gave three fours and a six, but ended with an economy of 6.50. Most importantly, Boult got in 12 dot deliveries.

Jasprit Bumrah- 9.5/10

Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding, to say the least. He was venomous with the ball, picking up four wickets. He got rid of Smith, Jofra Archer, Gopal and Rahul Tewatia. He also gave away 20 runs in four overs with 14 dots. It goes without saying that the Royals had a tough time facing Bumrah.
