After suffering a five-wicket defeat in the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians (MI) retaliated and thumped Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs in their second IPL 2020 encounter. With a win and a loss under their belt, MI will now lock horns with Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore on 28th September.
One of the highlights of MI’s triumph over Kolkata was the blistering knock of their skipper Rohit Sharma. The ‘Hitman’ steered his side to a dominant 195-run total by slamming 80 off just 54 deliveries. He smoked 6 sixes and 3 fours during the course of his impressive batting show.
Rohit, the most successful IPL skipper with four IPL titles, will be vying to continue his stellar form and guide the Mumbai Paltan to their fifth trophy this season. The Mumbaikar also added another feather in his cap during the course of his blistering 80-run inning.
In 190 IPL matches, he has now slammed 200 sixes. He is also third in the list of highest run-scorers in the tournament’s history, only behind Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina.
My bat usually lasts long, pretty long: Rohit Sharma
Rohit, a couple of days after MI’s victory against KKR, revealed the longevity of his bats. The right-hander said that his bats last pretty long, almost a month or two when he is playing the shortest format. Rohit also revealed how many bats has he carried to UAE for the thirteenth edition of the IPL.
“My bat usually lasts long, pretty long. I would say about four to five months. But in the end, everything depends on the format I am playing. When you are playing the T20 format, you need to do a lot of hitting. A lot of innovative shots you need to practice so there are chances that your bat might break,” Rohit said in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Indians.
“During the IPL and T20 format, my bat usually lasts for a month or two. Especially now that we know that the times are tough, we do not know if the courier will reach on time so I have taken around nine bats with me,” he added.
