The Indian Premier League (IPL) is undeniably the biggest sports carnival in India. With intense competition in the league, fans have often seen many records being broken ever since the inauguration of the extravaganza in 2008.

It goes without saying that the IPL is getting massive in stature with each passing year. Although many leagues across the world were formed, the IPL still remains the best among the all due to the participation of star players from all the corners of the cricketing world.

Even the foreign players eagerly wait for every year’s IPL and thus it is deemed as the best cricket league in the world.

1. CSK – Reached playoffs in all the seasons they were part of

The Chennai based franchise is the most successful team in the history of the IPL as their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni led them to playoffs in all the 10 seasons they played so far. Their worst performance till date is back in 2009 IPL, where they finished fourth in the end.

In the 10 seasons they played, the Chennai Super Kings reached the finals eight times and won three of them in 2010, 2011 and 2018. In addition, they have also won the Champions League Twenty20 two times in 2010 and 2014.

Things are not going in Chennai’s way in the ongoing IPL as they lost the services of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh before the start of the tournament. They lost two of the three games they played in this season so far. The Yellow Army have to struggle hard to continue their record of reaching the playoffs this season.

2. RCB – Team with highest and lowest score in an IPL innings

Despite not having any IPL trophy in their cabinet, the Bangalore based franchise is the most celebrated IPL team in the cash rich league. They recorded the highest score in the history of IPL when they faced the now-defunct Pune Warriors India franchise back in 2013. With the help of Chris Gayle’s blistering innings of 175, RCB scored 264 which is still the highest team score in IPL.

The team which scored the highest total also registered the lowest team score to their name when they played Kolkata Knight Riders back in 2017. Chasing a modest 132 run target, the Virat Kohli led team was bundled out for 49 runs at the Eden Gardens, making it the lowest ever team score in IPL.

RCB, who were looking forward to register their first championship in IPL have started their 2020 campaign with a great win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But they lost to KL Rahul’s KXIP in their second game due to the below par performances by their bowlers in the death overs.

3. KXIP – Used the highest number of captains so far

The Preity Zinta co-owned franchise, Kings XI Punjab used the most number of captains so far. Starting from Yuvraj Singh in the inaugural edition to KL Rahul in the present IPL, the Punjab based franchise has used a total of 12 captains in the cash rich event.

Although they changed many captains so far, the Kings XI Punjab have only one final appearance to their name back in 2014, which they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in a nail-biting finish. In the 12 editions of the league, KXIP managed to reach the playoffs only twice, once in the inaugural edition and again in 2014.

KL Rahul was appointed as the captain of the franchise ahead of IPL 2020 and is expected to be the franchise’s solution for a long-time captain. They started this year’s campaign with a heart-breaking loss in a super over which was followed by a comprehensive win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

4. KKR – Most consecutive wins

The Kolkata based franchise are undoubtedly one of the greatest IPL teams and they won the title two times in 2012 and 2014. The Knight Riders registered 10 consecutive wins between 2014 and 2015 which is still a record the other franchises are trying to break.

Having lost five out of their initial seven games in 2014, KKR did something fabulous to win their next nine games and secure the crown. Captain Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa drove the streak, winning five man of the match awards between themselves before Manish Pandey’s sizzling 94 from 50 balls in the final decimated KXIP.

Their 10-match winning streak ended when they lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by three wickets in the next season. Currently the Dinesh Karthik franchise won one game in the two games they played this season and are looking as a strong contender to lift the trophy this year.

5. MI – Largest ever win margin in terms of runs

The four-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians team registered the biggest victory (by runs) in the IPL’s history. In IPL 2017, when they played against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), MI registered a massive 146-run win that night, which is still the highest.

Chasing a big total of 213, the Delhi batsmen fumbled and got out for 66 runs in mere 13.2 overs as Karn Sharma and Harbhajan Singh fired that night by taking three wickets each. This win also confirmed the berth of Mumbai Indians in playoffs that season, who later won the title that year.

Currently, the Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians came into this season as the defending champions and are expected to win their maiden trophy in an even year, which they haven’t done before as all the four titles they won were in odd years.

6. RR – Highest successful run chase in IPL

The Jaipur based franchise has just broken their own record of highest successful run chase in this season after they chased a mammoth total of 224 runs against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Batting first the Kings XI Punjab batsman Mayank Agarwal scored a blazing 106 off 50 balls and helped his team to post a mammoth 223 runs on the board. Chasing a target of 224, RR batsmen Sanju Samson, Steve Smith and Rahul Tewatia scored half centuries and chased down the target in 19.3 overs losing six wickets.

The champions of the inaugural season, RR chased down 216 runs against Deccan Chargers in the first season, which is now the second highest successful run chase in IPL. The Rajasthan team is looking strong in all the departments of the game and is anticipated to win their second title.

7. DC – Most consecutive losses and no final appearance

The Delhi based franchise holds the record for the greatest number of consecutive losses by a franchise in IPL. They achieved this unwanted record between 2014 and 2015 IPL seasons when they lost 11 games in a row. They lost their last 9 games in 2014 and first 2 games in 2015 and added this undesirable record to their back.

Having played 12 IPL seasons so far, the Delhi franchise didn’t manage to reach finals in any of the seasons so far. Their best performance till now came in the last edition after the franchise changed their name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals where they finished the tournament at 3rd position under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.

Currently the Delhi Capitals team are looking in great flow by winning both the games they played till now in this season. With their well-balanced squad and tremendous bench strength, Delhi is a strong contender to win the title this year.

8. SRH – Highest first wicket partnership in IPL

The Sunrisers franchise came into the IPL in the year 2013 after the termination of the now-defunct franchise Deccan Chargers after IPL 2012. They won the title once in the 2016 edition and went to playoffs five times in the seven seasons they played till now.

The Hyderabad franchise holds the record for highest first wicket partnership of 185 runs in IPL. They achieved this feat when their openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner fired at the top against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home ground last year. Both of them went on to score centuries and put up 231 runs on the board.

SRH won the match by 118 runs as Mohammad Nabi went through the top order of RCB by picking four wickets in the beginning of the run-chase. Currently the David Warner led team lost both their encounters in this season so far and are struggling to find momentum with the bat.
