Prithvi Shaw blew away the entire Kolkata Knight Riders camp as Delhi Capitals script a fascinating victory by seven wickets. With the win, Delhi also dethrones the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to occupy the second position in the IPL points table just behind Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with five victories from seven matches.

Entering the contest, the toss went in the favor of young skipper Rishabh Pant and he decided to invite two-time champions to put a total on the board. Batting first, the opening woes continued for the Knight Riders as they lost their opening batter, Nitish Rana, in the fourth over while he was playing at 15.

The same was followed by Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi stitching a crucial partnership in the middle. However, Marcus Stoinis returned with the scalp of Tripathi to give a breakthrough to his. Lalit Yadav also weaved his magic with the ball as he distorted the opposition’s batting line-up by picking two scalps in the form of Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine.

However, in the end, the Knight Riders somehow managed to reach the target of 154 for six in their 20 overs. Andre Russell was the wrecker-in-chief for the side as in the death over he launched an assault on the opposition bowlers. His knock of not out 45 runs off 27 balls included two boundaries and four maximums at a strike rate of 166.67. Russell was aptly supported by Gill who played a sensible inning of 43 off 38.

Prithvi Shaw produces the best knock of his IPL career

Chasing 155, DC’s opening batter Prithvi Shaw caused carnage on the field as he punished both pace and spin alike. Shaw produced the best knock of his IPL career thus far as he started off by smashing six consecutive fours off six deliveries of the first over Shivam Mavi. Throughout the innings, Prithvi entertained the viewers with his attractive strokeplay and played a flawless inning of 82 runs off 41 deliveries.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shaw stitched a partnership of 132 runs in just 13.5 overs. Though Pat Cummins finally managed to pick the first wicket for KKR in the 14th over, it was too late and DC was on the verge of winning. Towards the end, Cummins scalped two more wickets of Pant and Shaw but DC easily registered a victory by seven wickets.
