The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have added Rojith Ganesh to their list of reserve players ahead of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise has already started its preparations for the upcoming edition of the T20 extravaganza and MI’s scouting team has identified Rojith as the one to watch out for it seems.

Rojith played a couple of matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season for Kerala but couldn’t do much. He didn’t get many deliveries to bat where he mustered only 10 runs and his leg break bowling was used for two overs only in his debut game.

However, the all-rounder seemed to have impressed MI during the recently concluded KCA Presidents T20 Cup. Though Ganesh didn’t play all the matches while featuring for KCA Royals who were the eventual winners of the tournaments, he stood out in the limited opportunities. In one of the matches, he smacked an unbeaten 28 off just 11 deliveries at a brilliant strike-rate of more than 250.

Even with the ball, Rojith Ganesh impressed on certain occasions picking wickets for the team. After being picked as a reserve player in the Mumbai Indians line-up, Rojith was delighted and confirmed the news on his official Instagram handle. “Happy to stand with champions side @mumbaiindians #ipl2021,” the caption of his post read.

Mumbai Indians keen on defending their title

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will be looking to become the first team to win the IPL for three years in a row. The team has made it a habit to win the trophy every now and then and until the 2020 season, MI had won four titles, only in odd years, from 2013. However, they broke this streak and also managed to defend the title last season when the tournament was played behind closed doors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Even this time around, they will be hoping for their players to step up to the task and repeat the heroics of the previous edition.
