Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 makes a perfect script for a Bollywood blockbuster. Having lost five of their first seven games, the two-time champions were reeling at the penultimate place at the time of season suspension. While KKR looked entirely down and out, the side scripted a remarkable comeback in the UAE leg.

The Eoin Morgan-led side somehow became a force to reckon with and won one game after another. They even managed to qualify for the playoffs. However, this wasn’t going to satisfy the Men in Purple and Gold. KKR then defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 respectively, making a place in finals for the first time since 2014.

The Kolkata-based franchise will now meet Chennai Super Kings in the summit clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday (October 15). Hours before the high-voltage clash, fans dug out an old tweet of KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan in which he mentioned drinking coffee in the IPL cup. This tweet dates March 31 earlier this year.

Shah Rukh Khan planned to drink coffee in the IPL cup

The Bollywood starlet had conducted a Question/Answer session on Twitter at that time. As the first leg of IPL 2021 was about to start, many queries were fired regarding KKR’s chances of getting the glory. One of the fans asked Shah Rukh whether KKR will bring the IPL ‘cup’ this year or not. In reply, the Don actor cheekily wrote: “I hope so. I want to start drinking coffee in that only!”

With KKR now being in the final, Shah Rukh’s post resurfaced on social media as his team is just one step away from glory. However, Eoin Morgan’s men shouldn’t put a foot wrong as they’ll tackle the in-form Chennai Super Kings in the high-voltage encounter. The MS Dhoni-led side has performed brilliantly as a unit and clinched one game after another.

Moreover, they defeated KKR both times in group stages. Hence, they have many reasons to take the field with confidence. However, the history is in KKR’s favour. The two sides also met in IPL 2012 final as Kolkata walked away with a five-wicket triumph.
