18th February 2021 was a day filled with a lot of excitement and fervor. All the 8 IPL teams finalized their squads ahead of the 2021 IPL edition that starts in a couple of months. There were certain players who hit the jackpot and attracted astronomical bids. And surely, they will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Let us delve into some numbers here. A total of 57 players were sold in the auctions today, and out of that, 22 were overseas players. A whopping sum of 145.3 Crore was spent by all the 8 franchises in the day. Chris Morris shattered several records and was bought for a humungous sum of 16.25 Crore by Rajasthan Royals (RR) and his base price was just 75 Lakhs.

Kyle Jamieson went for an astronomical amount of 15 Crores and was pouched by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side. Glenn Maxwell once again set the auction stage on fire and was sold for an amount of 14.25 Crores to RCB. Aussie pacer Jhye Richardson was another player who struck it huge in the auction, as he was bought for 14 Crores by the Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Among Indian players, Krishnappa Gowtham was sold for a sum of 9.25 Crores to the Chennai side, while uncapped bowler Shahrukh Khan was sold for 5.25 Crores to Punjab. There were some big names that were sold for low amounts as well. Steve Smith was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for a sum of 2.2 Crores, and Dawid Malan was pouched at his base price of 1.5 Crores by the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Umesh Yadav was sold to the Delhi outfit for 1 Crore.

At the age of 40, Harbhajan Singh was sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for 2 Crores.  And, the final name in the auction list, Arjun Tendulkar was bought by the Mumbai Indians (MI) for 20 Lakhs. All in all, the 8 teams have added a lot of exciting players to their arsenal, and have ironed out their chinks. And in a couple of months’ time, they will battle it out in the 14th edition of the IPL.
