For players who participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL), it doesn’t take too long to have a change in fortune. One of the most significant traits of the Indian T20 league is its tendency to change the destiny of an individual. For example, if a player plays well throughout a season, he could then see a salary hike in the season to follow.

Over the years, there have been similar cases time and again. If one were to take a look at the recently released retention list of all the IPL teams, a salary hike among a few players is constant across all franchises. Thus, this is what happens when one has a successful season.

For some players, the hike in salaries has been staggering, to say the least. The increase in their salary comes as a reward for their performances, and at the same time, a leap of faith entrusted by their respective teams.

In the article, let’s take a look at 5 players who got a maximum hike in salary compared to last year in the IPL

Mayank Agarwal would be a happy man. From being bought by the Punjab Kings (Then Kings XI Punjab) in 2018 for INR 1 crore to being retained by the same franchise for INR 12 crores, the Karnataka lad has come a long way.

The right-handed batter has been superb for the Punjab-based franchise. As a matter of fact, he has been their second-best batter after KL Rahul since 2018. With his good friend and former captain not in the side, there is a huge chance of seeing him being named the new skipper of PBKS as well.

The 30-year-old has scored 2135 runs in 100 IPL games so far. His batting average and strike rate in the toughest T20 league are 23.46 and 135.73 respectively. He has also racked up 11 fifties and a hundred. Thus, the Punjab fans would have a lot of high hopes from him this time around.

Those who have watched Arshdeep Singh bowl, wouldn’t be surprised with him getting retained. Ever since he made his IPL debut in 2019, he has been sensational for PBKS. With age on his side, he’s all set to be a force to reckon with.

The best part about the pacer is his ability to bowl at the death. The youngster gave the best of best finishers a run for their money. Moreover, his ability to bowl yorkers at will has managed to impress all the cricket pundits.

The uncapped Indian seamer was retained for INR 4 crore, which is 20 times higher than his previous salary (INR 20 lakhs). So far in his IPL career, the 22-year-old has picked 30 wickets in 23 games. His bowling average and strike rate are 22.3 and 15.23 respectively.

Abdul Samad is a player with immense potential. Even before he made his IPL debut, he was rated highly among all the cricket experts. Not only is he a hard-hitter, but he can also bowl leg-breaks.

The all-rounder from Jammu and Kashmir was heavily backed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), but his returns were to an extent, modest. However, taking his talent into account, the orange army have continued to back him.

The Hyderabad-based franchise retained the uncapped Indian all-rounder for INR 4 crore, which is 20 times more than his previous IPL salary. Thus, the aggressive batter will be looking forward to repaying the faith shown by the SRH management. Besides, his IPL strike rate is 146.05 as of now and thus, the potential is definitely there.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is hailed as the future superstar of Indian cricket. In the fourteenth edition of the IPL, he was scoring runs for fun. As a matter of fact, he even won the Orange Cap in IPL 2021.

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that he is currently one of the best Indian openers in the Indian T20 league. Thus, the Chennai Super Kings decided to retain him for 6 crore, which is 30 times more than his previous IPL salary, which was just 20 lakh.

The 24-year-old has scored 839 runs in 22 IPL games so far. His batting average and strike rate are 46.61 and 132.13 respectively. The right-hander has also notched seven fifties and a hundred. Venkatesh Iyer is undoubtedly the most significant gainer among the retained players. From being an unknown product earning the benches to being retained, the all-rounder has come a long way. Despite playing just the second half of IPL 2021, his impact was humongous.

So much so that he was retained ahead of the likes of Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi. As the Madhya Pradesh all-rounder went on to make his international debut recently, he became a capped player. Thus, he now has a contract worth INR 8 crore.

So far in his IPL career, the 26-year-old has scored 370 runs in 10 games. His batting average and strike rate are 41.11 and 128.47 respectively.
