The wait is finally over as the two new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad – have confirmed their draft picks ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auctions. While Lucknow went with KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi, Ahmedabad have roped in Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill. These players will form the core of their respective teams and would like to do well.

For the unversed, the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a grand affair with two new teams coming in the picture. Hence, for the first time since 2011, IPL will be a 10-team affair. With a mega auction being in schedule, the eight existing franchises were asked to retain a maximum of four players ahead of the bidding event.

KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya to lead the new IPL teams

Teams were allowed to make a maximum of one foreign retention. In order to make the competition fair for the new sides, they were given the option of getting a maximum of three players on board from the list of non-retained players. Hence, Lucknow went with Rahul, Stoinis and Bishnoi. Rahul, who led Punjab Kings in the last two seasons, will also lead the franchise.

Speaking of the Ahmedabad franchise, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been appointed as captain. He’ll have services of Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill. Both teams have apparently went with one batter, one bowler and one all-rounder. It must be noted that all 10 teams were allotted a purse of INR 90 crore.

Hence, they are left with different purse amount after selecting players in draft. Speaking of the two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad have been left with a purse of INR 58 and INR 52 crore. As far as the existing sides are concerned, they had different approaches while making the draft picks.

While some sides tried retaining their core, others went for a revamp and didn’t avail all the available options. Meanwhile, the mega auction would take place in February and all franchises have some brainstorming to do.
