Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul struck a magnificent century as his side defeated the struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs in Match 26 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Avesh Khan took three wickets for 30 runs in his four-over spell to hand MI their six consecutive defeat of this campaign. With this loss, Rohit Sharma and his men have now lost six straight matches for the first time in the league’s history.

Speaking about how the afternoon game panned out, Rohit won the toss, and elected to field first. They made one change with pacer Basil Thampi making way for the West Indian Fabian Allen. LSG brought in Manish Pandey in place of all-rounder K Gowtham. Captain Rahul scored an outstanding century as the right-handed batter carried his bat on his way to 103 runs off 60 deliveries with nine fours and five maximums. Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey mustered 24 and 38 runs respectively. The new franchise LSG posted a massive total of 199/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Tymal Mills endured a tough outing with the pacer leaking 54 runs in three overs.

Chasing 200 for their first win in the tournament, Rohit’s poor form continued as the captain got dismissed for just six runs. Ishan Kishan made 13 runs with young Dewald Brevis again playing a quickfire knock of 31 runs in just 13 deliveries. MI’s most consistent batter this season, Suryakumar Yadav scored 37 runs while Kieron Pollard kept fighting till the end for his 25 runs, but couldn’t quite get his team over the line. LSG joined the Gujarat Titans with eight points in the table as MI’s miserable and disastrous season continued with six straight defeats. For his match-winning century, KL Rahul won the Player-of-the-Match award.
