The 31st game of IPL 2022 took place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai as Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns with each other. Both the teams were coming off a win from their previous encounters, and both had four wins from six games. With the conclusion of today’s game, RCB took the upper hand as they defeated LSG by 18 runs.

Winning the toss, LSG skipper KL Rahul elected to field first. RCB was put under a challenging situation after Dushmantha Chameera picked Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli in the very first over. Glenn Maxwell looked like he would take the game long, but LSG brought in Krunal Pandya to the attack as the spinner sent the Big Show packing for the fourth time in the history of the IPL.

After four wickets, skipper Faf du Plessis was struggling to form a dependable partnership and entered Shahbaz Ahmed. RCB’s game was back on track after the two took on the LSG bowlers with brilliance. Ahmed’s dismissal meant a finishing knock from Dinesh Karthik, but LSG bowlers executed their plans really well. Faf fell for 96 (64), falling short of just four runs from getting his maiden IPL century, in the last over as RCB finished their innings at 181/6.

Faf and Josh do the work for RCB as they steal another victory

RCB had a very strong reply for LSG batters when the latter came out to chase. Josh Hazlewood struck twice in the powerplay as he dismissed Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey as LSG ended scoring 44/2 at the end of six overs. Just when KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya started their hitting, Harshal Patel broke the partnership as he scalped the LSG captain after a successful referral.

Pandya looked very strong, but Maxwell took his revenge and sent him packing for 42 (28). Things fell out of place for LSG as even Ayush Badoni and Marcus Stoinis failed to score big, and the two were dismissed by Josh Hazelwood, who scalped a four-wicket haul to end his spell with 4/25. Hazlewood’s heroics with the ball and Faf’s composure with the bat helped RCB seal the victory as they jumped to the second spot on the points table.
