Gujarat Titans have nine wins in 12 league matches and have already qualified for the playoffs of IPL 2022. In their last league game, they secured a sensational victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 62 runs. It was an average performance from the batters to post only 144 runs on the board, but the bowlers helped the team to bag their ninth victory of the season.

They will be up against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next league game on May 15 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Although it will be a dead rubber, it is expected to be a good chance for the Titans to confirm their top two spots and get an advantage in the playoffs. For this game, they are not expected to tinker with their winning combination.

Here’s a look at the Gujarat Titans’ predicted playing XI against Chennai Super Kings:

Openers: Wriddhiman Saha (wk) and Shubman Gill

The opening pair of the team has been terrific with its efforts on most occasions to provide a stable start for the team. The team has benefitted a lot in the top order as both these players have a sound technique and have the ability to pierce the gaps in the powerplay overs.

In seven appearances, Wriddhiman Saha has garnered a total of 214 runs, with two fifties and a strike rate of 125.14, hence justifying his selection into the team. Keeping aside the contribution of only five runs in the last fixture, he has provided hefty contributions at the top.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill has been impressive with 384 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 137.14 and the highest score of 96. In the last fixture, he delivered an unbeaten knock of 63 from 49 balls, which helped the team to seal the game.

Middle Order: Matthew Wade and David Miller

Matthew Wade has been a terrific performer in the shortest format of the game and had served as a match-winner for the Australian team in the T20 World Cup 2021. However, he was dropped from the Titans Playing XI as he could not provide consistent contributions and has garnered a total of only 78 runs in six innings.

In the last game, Wade was called back to the playing XI and was dismissed for just 10 runs off seven balls. He is expected to retain his place in this game as the team has already qualified for the playoffs. On the other hand, David Miller is having a good time in the ongoing season and has 332 runs in 12 games at a terrific average of 55.33.

The Proteas batter has delivered sensational knocks under pressure, with 94* off 51 coming against CSK earlier in the season. In the last game, he contributed 26 off 24, which steered the team to a respectable total on the board.

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya (c), Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan

This department consists of talented players who have been doing well for the last couple of years in the T20 format. Captain Hardik Pandya provided major contributions in the first half of the season in both departments of the game. In 11 matches, he has 344 runs to his name at an average of 38.22 and has four wickets with the ball. He needs to get back to proper form ahead of the crucial playoffs.

The aggressive batter Rahul Tewatia has found consistency while playing for the Titans in this tournament. In 12 matches, he has scored 215 runs at an average of 35.83 and a strike rate of 149.30. In the last outing, he remained unbeaten on 22 off 16.

One of the finest spinners, Rashid Khan bamboozled the opposition team with his attacking bowling and took a total of four wickets by giving away 24 runs in the last league match. In this season, he has done well with the bat as well and has 72 runs at a strike rate of 189.47.

Bowlers: Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal and Mohammed Shami

The bowling unit was impressive in the last game to put enough pressure on the opposition’s batting lineup. The debutant Sai Kishore finished with figures of 2/7 in two overs and would wish to continue the same form in the upcoming matches.

The left-arm pacer Yash Dayal came back into the team and took two wickets, but gave away runs at an economy of 12 in the last match. The Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph has picked up six wickets in seven league matches at an economy of 8.88 and has a scope for improvement.

GT’s leader of the bowling unit, Mohammed Shami has been in sublime form throughout the season. He has done most of the damage to the opposition with his line and lengths in the powerplay overs and has contained runs in the death overs as well. In 12 appearances, Shami has 16 wickets at an economy of 7.87.

GT’s predicted playing XI for CSK’s clash: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami.
