Sunrisers Hyderabad had a forgetful IPL 2021 marred by controversy regarding the handling of David Warner by the team management. The Hyderabad franchise signed Nicholas Pooran for INR 10.75 crore in the 2022 auction to bolster their batting lineup. The explosive southpaw was the most expensive West Indies player in the auction.

The attacking batter had a frustrating season in 2021 where he managed a meager 85 runs in 12 matches for Punjab Kings. The left-handed batter had a poor run in the T20 World Cup as well for the West Indies. But he regained his form in the lead-up to this year’s tournament.

The wicketkeeper-batter had a fruitful outing in IPL 2022 as he scored 306 runs for SRH at a brisk strike rate of 144.34. He was pivotal in his side’s five consecutive wins that put them on track for a playoff berth. Pooran’s partnership with Aiden Markram was quite impactful in the later stages of the innings, as both were capable of scoring quick runs
