This season, two new teams, the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, have joined the cash-rich tournament. Mayank Agarwal is one of the most destructive openers in the tournament. The Karnataka cricketer has no experience in leading a team, in fact, he is one of the four players who have made his IPL captaincy debut this season.

​Mayank has been a part of the Punjab franchise for the past four years and his consistent performances have awarded him the role of captaincy.

The 31-year-old has played 102 games and scored 2168 runs which include 11 fifty-plus scores. Punjab started the 2022 season with a win in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore as the season moves ahead and he will be looking to register more wins.

The New Zealand skipper is ranked third on the best captains list this season. He doesn&#8217;t need any introduction. The Kiwi batter was retained by SRH for INR 14 crores during the IPL 2022 retentions.

Williamson has a lot of captaincy experience since 2016. He led his national team to the 2021 T20 World Cup final and will be eyeing to do the same for his IPL team as well.

Under his captaincy, the South African team has done well, winning one Test series in New Zealand, one in Australia, and a 3-0 clean sweep against Sri Lanka are some of his most famous stints as captain.

But when Virat Kohli decided to quit the captaincy role after the IPL 2021, the franchise also had the option available in the form of Glenn Maxwell, but they went with Faf because of his great understanding of the game.

But he has the experience and knows very well how to get the team back on the winning track.
Coming to his IPL stats, the opener has led Mumbai in 131 matches and won 75 games with 58.77 win percent, which is second best after Dhoni’s 59.60.

The 15th edition of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Indian Premier League</a> has started. In the IPL 2022 season, four players have made their IPL captaincy debut, including Faf du Plessis, Mayank Agarwal, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. Keeping that in mind, we have ranked all the captains of this season on the basis of their performance and leadership qualities.

Ravindra Jadeja&#8217;s appointment as the captain of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/csk-chennai-super-kings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chennai Super Kings</a> was a surprise for everyone. The news came just two days before the start of the 2022 IPL season. He never led any team in the tournament before the first match of the season against KKR.
The number one Test all-rounder has been a part of CSK since 2012 when he was bought by the franchise for INR 9.72 crore. He was named captain this year to prepare himself for the future under the guidance of MS Dhoni.
Men in Yellow have context and Jadeja will enjoy this opportunity. With Dhoni on his side, Jadeja will feel safe. It will be interesting to see how CSK performs this season and how Jadeja will make the decision on the ground.

Hardik Pandya is the captain of the second new franchise, the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/gujarat-titans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gujarat Titans</a>. The team is filled with star players like Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill. The team looks perfect on paper but needs a captain like Hardik who can control things on the ground.
Pandya is another player who has made his captaincy debut this season. The team has managed to capture wins in the first two games against LSG and DC.
The all-rounder is known for his explosive batting style for his previous IPL team, the Mumbai Indians. He has experience absorbing the pressure as he was also a part of Mumbai’s four title-winning campaigns. This could prove to be a benefit for his IPL franchise.

Mayank Agarwal is one of the most destructive openers in the tournament. He was named the captain of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/punjab-kings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Punjab Kings</a> for this IPL season. The Karnataka cricketer has no experience in leading a team, in fact, he is one of the four players who have made his IPL captaincy debut this season.
​Mayank has been a part of the Punjab franchise for the past four years and his consistent performances have awarded him the role of captaincy.
The 31-year-old has played 102 games and scored 2168 runs which include 11 fifty-plus scores. Punjab started the 2022 season with a win in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore as the season moves ahead and he will be looking to register more wins.

KL Rahul, the most elegant batter of this generation, has started the new innings of his <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL </a>career with a new franchise, the Lucknow Super Giants. The opener led PBKS in the last three seasons but failed to make an impact with his captaincy as the team had to finish bottom of the points table.
Rahul has been the most consistent batter in the last four seasons of the IPL. The right-hander has crossed the 600-run mark in three out of four seasons. Captain Rahul has a good bunch of players this season and looking at the balance of the side, many believe LSG could be a team to win the tournament.
Meanwhile, Rahul is also seen as the future Indian captain and has a great opportunity to confirm his place.

<h3>6. Sanju Samson</h3>

Another talented wicketkeeper-batter is leading his team this IPL season. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/rr-rajasthan-royals/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rajasthan Royals </a>have shown a lot of faith in Sanju Samson over the past two years. He has a huge responsibility on his shoulders to take his team on the road to victory. RR is still searching for his second title after winning the inaugural edition in 2008.
Ahead of the 2021 IPL, the franchise appointed him the new captain and he scored a century in his first game as captain. In doing so, he became the first IPL captain to hit a century on debut.
The Rajasthan-based franchise had a poor outing in 2021 despite winning six matches as they finished seventh in the standings. However, the fortunes can be changed this season as management has built a strong squad and captain Samson has that group of players who can beat any team.

Rishabh Pant, a talented wicketkeeper-batter, made an impressive captaincy debut last year. He guided the Delhi Capitals to their second consecutive IPL playoffs and will be eyeing the first title for his side this season.
In the short span of time, the left-hander has achieved so many heights in his cricketing career. Last year, when he replaced Iyer as captain, the southpaw left his mark with his captaincy moves and impressed many cricket experts with field placements and bowling changes.
The 24-year-old has led the Capitals in 18 games and managed to win 10. In the first match of the season, Pant and company managed to beat the mighty Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets.

<h3>4. Shreyas Iyer</h3>

The former Delhi Capitals skipper is leading the two-time IPL champion team KKR in the IPL 2022 season. KKR management went on to appoint Shreyas Iyer as captain for this season’s IPL.
At the age of 23, he became the youngest captain to lead the Delhi-based franchise in the history of the IPL. Iyer now has enough experience in captaining the IPL team. Under his captaincy, Delhi reached the IPL 2020 finals for the first time in IPL history.
After his former team released him in the retention window, the star cricketer has a point to prove as captain this season. Iyer will look to repeat his 2020 magic for his new team to bag them a third IPL title.

<h3>3. Kane Williamson</h3>

The New Zealand skipper is ranked third on the best captains list this season. He doesn&#8217;t need any introduction. The Kiwi batter was retained by SRH for INR 14 crores during the IPL 2022 retentions.
Williamson has a lot of captaincy experience since 2016. He led his national team to the 2021 T20 World Cup final and will be eyeing to do the same for his IPL team as well.
Coming to his IPL stats, the 31-year-old has led <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/srh-sunrisers-hyderabad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SRH</a> in 34 matches and won 16 games with a 48.52 win percentage. SRH will look to get off to a fresh start after forgetful last year’s poor performance under Williamson.

<h3>2. Faf du Plessis</h3>

Faf du Plessis, the former skipper of South Africa, has a lot of experience leading different teams. Under his captaincy, the South African team has done well, winning one Test series in New Zealand, one in Australia, and a 3-0 clean sweep against Sri Lanka are some of his most famous stints as captain.
Moving into the IPL, the South African batter has never had the opportunity to lead a team in the IPL. But when Virat Kohli decided to quit the captaincy role after the IPL 2021, the franchise also had the option available in the form of Glenn Maxwell, but they went with Faf because of his great understanding of the game.
His consistency in scoring runs in Indian conditions can be considered one of the strengths of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/rcb-royal-challengers-bangalore/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RCB</a> this season and he is the kind of leader who sets an example by leading from the front. With the arrival of Faf as the new captain, RCB will be hoping to end their title drought.
