Each year the IPL has brought some new names to the forefront, and for some, it has allowed them to restart their careers. It is the league where youngsters get the chance to play amongst international superstars of different nationalities. IPL provides the stage for emerging players to showcase their talent to the world. Many such stories have proven the IPL’s significance in players&#8217; careers. It is a testimony that if a player does exceptionally well in the IPL then it is quite clear that he is ready for the big stage.

The IPL 2022 has been no exception to that. This season has been a revelation. The number of talents that have emerged from this season is fascinating. The likes of Umran Malik, Rajat Patidar, Aayush Badoni, Mohsin Khan, etc. are a few to mention. Although some players don’t get enough opportunities in the playing XI because of the obvious reason of team compositions. Such players do possess the capabilities to change the course of the game, but unfortunately, they are under-used. Here is a list of a player from each team who has been underused in the IPL 2022.

1. MI &#8211; Fabian Allen

The Jamaican allrounder has played T20 franchise cricket all around the globe. Since his debut for the West Indies in 2018, he has been a regular member of the squad. The 26-year-old cricketer is a left-arm orthodox spinner and bats in the lower middle order. He is someone who can take wickets in the middle overs and chip in with some handy runs at the back end of the innings. Allen has been in the headlines for his athletic fielding as well. He’s a complete T20 package and therefore has been a regular feature in the T20 franchise cricket circuit.

The IPL 2022 has not been a season of action for Fabian Allen though. He has played only one game so far picking up one wicket for the expense of 46 runs in his 4 overs. And since then he has not been in the playing 11 of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/rohit-sharma-other-mi-players-indulge-in-an-interesting-team-bonding-session/">Mumbai Indians</a>. Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2022 campaign has been a struggle. Fabian Allen was brought into the playing 11 after five consecutive losses but his inclusion did not change MI’s fortunes. Although they managed to win a game after a disastrous losing streak of 8 games.

Although he should have been inducted into the team earlier than he did. As his fellow West Indian, Kieron Pollard was not in the best of form. Allen might have compensated in his place or he might have been used as a floater upfront in the innings to provide that acceleration. As the openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were tentative throughout the season, Allen could have also played the role that Sunil Narine has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, as a run rate booster in the powerplay.

2. CSK &#8211; Devon Conway

Devon Conway has been a consistent performer since his debut for New Zealand. The South African-born Kiwi opening batter has stunned the world with his endeavors of moving to New Zealand to play the game he loves. As soon as he started his international career in 2020, he was named the &#8220;ICC Men’s Player of the Month&#8221; for June 2021. He was also named as one of the five &#8220;Wisden Cricketers of the Year&#8221; in April 2022. He was bagged by the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/chennai-super-kings-emerges-as-the-biggest-sports-franchise-in-india-survey-report/">Chennai Super Kings</a> in the auction ahead of IPL 2022.

Chennai Super Kings is facing the perils of disqualification at the moment in IPL 2022. They have won only 3 out of their 9 games. Devon Conway has played only two games as yet. In CSK’s latest match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he played a fantastic knock of 85 not out in 55 deliveries alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad. Conway’s calculated yet attacking approach assisted CSK to post a total of 202 runs. Chennai lost the trick of picking him in the playing 11 right from the start of the season as he would have made a significant difference upfront in the innings.

Speaking of his T20 International numbers, he is as consistent as it gets. In 20 matches he has amassed 602 runs with an amazing average of 50.17 and a decent strike rate of 139.35. After his first match in which he scored 3 runs in 8 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders, he was not included in the playing 11 for further matches. Chennai Super Kings should have stuck with Conway in the top order after their inaugural game as he might have provided the steady starts in partnership with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/so-much-to-like-about-ruturaj-gaikwad-ravi-shastri-lauds-young-batter-for-stellar-show-against-srh/">Ruturaj Gaikwad</a>. A player like Conway who is a proven top-order batter in all formats of the game shouldn’t be kept out for long.

3. RCB &#8211; Rajat Patidar

The Madhya Pradesh batter has not been in the spotlight as such, but his contributions to <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/rcb-royal-challengers-bangalore/?page=1">Royal Challengers Bangalore</a> have been very crucial. In their recent outing against Gujarat Titans, he scored a quickfire knock of 52 runs in 32 deliveries which helped them to score a decent total of 170. Till now in IPL 2022, he has played only 2 games. His shot-making abilities and game awareness in his latest match were quite impressive. His partnership with the out-of-form Virat Kohli was a positive sign for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He was first picked by RCB in the 2021 auction and was drafted in as a replacement for Luvnith Sisodia this season. Rajat Patidar has been a prolific performer in the last couple of domestic seasons. His domestic T20 record reflects his abilities quite clearly. In 33 T20 matches, he has scored 929 runs with a brilliant average of 30.96 and a decent strike rate of 138.86. RCB are struggling to keep the momentum going as they have lost their previous 3 matches in a row.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/virat-kohli-right-at-the-top-of-cricket-cristiano-ronaldo-right-at-the-top-of-football-kevin-pietersen/">Virat Kohli</a> is slowly and steadily coming into his own, but if that takes much more time, it may cost RCB moving ahead. If RCB wants to come back to winning mode, then a player like Rajat Patidar cannot be kept out of the playing 11. The maturity with which he played alongside Kohli will boost his confidence and will help RCB in their upcoming matches.

4. KKR &#8211; Rinku Singh

The man who kept his cool to take KKR on the winning side in their recent game against the Rajasthan Royals is in the limelight, he is <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/hes-tell-me-calm-calm-and-finish-the-game-rinku-singhs-hilarious-interaction-with-shreyas-iyer-goes-viral/">Rinku Singh</a>. The Aligarh-born left-handed batter has been with the Kolkata Knight Riders since 2018 but never got the opportunities he deserved. The UP middle-order batter has been amongst runs in the domestic circuit. A knee injury ahead of the 2021 IPL caused him to stay away from that season. He was bought again by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the auction ahead of IPL 2022.

He has only played 3 matches in the season so far. In those 3 games, he has scored a total of 100 runs, averaging 50.00 with a stunning strike rate of 149.25. He is someone who gives his hundred percent in the field and has taken some amazing catches as well. His latest outing showed his composure and match awareness which led KKR to end the 5-match losing streak and kept them in the scheme of things.

Kolkata Knight Riders&#8217; constant chopping and changing the middle order hasn’t added to their advantage but has backfired. They need someone like Rinku Singh to keep the scoreboard ticking with a decent run rate before Andre Russell’s onslaught. Under-using Rinku Singh might not be the right strategy. Rinku has been pretty impressive with his busy nature of rotating the strike and putting the ball out of the fence when needed.

5. RR &#8211; Kuldeep Sen

The fast bowler from Madhya Pradesh has amplified the Rajasthan Royals bowling line-up. The 25-year-old has been spectacular with his pace bowling, clocking speeds north of 140 kmph regularly. His death bowling abilities have helped Rajasthan Royals to their advantage. When the spearhead of the bowling lineup- Trent Boult has come short, Kuldeep Sen has stepped in. Although he has played only five games as yet, he has taken 8 wickets with a decent average of 20.37.

Rajasthan Royals are placed at the 3rd position in the points table, winning 6 games in 10 matches. But in a recent couple of games, their batting has stumbled and hasn’t provided the cushion to bowlers. Kuldeep has bowled well in those two matches clinching one wicket in each match. The pace bowling trio of Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, and Kuldeep Sen has solidified Rajasthan Royals’ bowling line-up. Since Kuldep’s inclusion, the bowling economy rate of the whole team has decreased.

The likes of Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna are great bowlers but their continuous inclusion in the playing 11 might cause fatigue concerns in the deciding stage of the league. Injury concerns can arise if not given proper attention to the workloads of Trent Bout and Prasidh Krishna. Kuldeep Sen is fit and has played only 5 matches. He might have been underused by RR till now but he definitely cannot be underused in their upcoming fixtures.

6. LSG &#8211; Marcus Stoinis

The star Australian all-rounder has got ample opportunities but hasn’t been utilized to the full advantage by the Lucknow Super Giants. His batting position at numbers 5, 6 &amp; 7 hasn’t done any benefit to LSG. Marcus Stoinis is someone who is known for his power-hitting abilities and his handy medium pace bowling. Marcus plays at number 3 or 4 in T20 internationals &amp; Big Bash and has been excellent at those batting positions. Stoinis&#8217; never-give-up attitude and striking ability make him a strong prospect when he’s sent in the upper-middle order.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/lsg-batting-order-is-fragile-without-kl-rahul-wasim-jaffer/">Lucknow Super Giants</a> have made their mark in their inaugural IPL season, winning 7 out of their 10 games so far. They are getting closer to booking their berth for the play-offs. But if they want to seize every opportunity in their upcoming fixtures, they need to use the services of Marcus Stoinis to their full potential. The Lucknow Super Giants have lost 3 matches so far and in those games, the batting order was not set accurately as Marcus Stoinis was sent down the order and that caused incorrigible damage.

Marcus Stoinis has played six games this season so far and hasn’t played to his best, mostly because of his misplaced position in the batting line-up. But from now on, they can’t afford to lose the potentiality of a player of Marcus Stoinis&#8217; caliber. He can be utilized up the order, potentially at number three, to make the most of his abilities. In chasing a big total, he can truly be an asset for the Lucknow Super Giants.

7. DC &#8211; Chetan Sakariya

Chetan Sakariya was the rising star of IPL 2021. The left-arm quick took 14 wickets in 14 matches with a splendid economy of 8.19 last year. His outstanding performance in the domestic circuit and IPL 2021 allowed him to represent the Indian team against Sri Lanka. Chetan Sakariya impressed everyone with his seam bowling abilities. The excellent use of slower balls with consistent bowling in the right areas has made him a valuable T20 bowler.

But Chetan has played only two matches in IPL 2022 so far, taking just 1 wicket. However, he was very economical in one of the two matches he played with decent figures of 1 wicket for the expense of 17 runs in his 3 overs. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/tu-aussie-hai-na-wasim-jaffer-takes-a-hilarious-dig-at-ricky-ponting-as-mitchell-marsh-walks-off-despite-not-edging-the-ball/">Delhi Capitals</a>’ campaign has not met their expectations. They are lacking the consistency which they had in the previous two seasons. Their inconsistent middle-order has let them down on more than one occasion this season. Their pace attack has been pretty homogeneous with the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, and Khaleel Ahmed.

Chetan Sakariya can bring some variety into their attack and eventually clinch some wickets in the crunch moments. He has been economical throughout his IPL career. The clever use of slower balls can be very deceptive for the opposition batters. As yet, he has been starkly underused but, moving ahead, Delhi Capitals may need to use his services more often as they have a tight rope to walk for their upcoming matches.

8. SRH &#8211; Abdul Samad

Abdul Samad was picked by <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/sunrisers-hyderabad/">Sunrisers Hyderabad</a> for Rs. 4 crores. He made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2020 and finished his debut season with a spectacular strike rate of 170.76. Since his debut for SRH, he has played 25 games scoring 226 runs with a healthy strike rate of 142.14. He plays with an aggressive approach in the middle order and is a handy wrist spinner. He played a few short, eventful knocks in the 2020 &amp; 2021 editions for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Samad was retained for IPL 2022 but hasn’t got ample opportunities to showcase his power-hitting skills and has played only two games. Sunrisers Hyderabad is having a good IPL so far by winning 5 out of their nine games and are currently placed at the 4th position in the points table. Their lower middle-order batting seems a bit weak and that can be rectified with the inclusion of Abdul Samad.

The Pooran-Markram partnership has worked for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first phase of the league, but as pitches will help the spinners, Abdul Samad’s inclusion might help Sunrisers Hyderabad both batting and bowling wise. Samad can be used as a floater early on in the innings to carry on the momentum provided by the in-form <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/srh-vs-gt-abhishek-sharma-on-working-with-brian-lara-in-ipl-2022/">Abhishek Sharma</a> and Kane Williamson. He is a handy leg spinner who can provide those 2 overs in the middle phase of the innings as well if required.

9. PBKS &#8211; Sandeep Sharma

Sandeep Sharma is an experienced campaigner in the IPL. He had been the spearhead of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise’s bowling line-up. He has taken 114 wickets in 103 matches with a superb economy of 7.74. He has been a consistent performer with the new ball and gets crucial wickets in the powerplay. He can seam the bowl both ways early on in the innings.

However, in IPL 2022, he has played only 4 games taking two wickets. He has gained a lot of experience from his long IPL career. He knows how to take wickets in the powerplay. Sandeep Sharma is someone who cannot be ignored for long as he can add immense value to the playing 11, especially when there is some movement for the bowlers. He was one of the important members of the title-winning 2016 squad of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sandeep Sharma can be an asset on the Mumbai pitches as they help seamers in the powerplay. Punjab is going to play their &#8220;all attack, no matter what&#8221; approach but that may increase the probability of a collapse. Though the likes of Sandeep Sharma and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/im-happy-but-never-satisfied-pacer-arshdeep-singh-on-ipl-2022-performance/">Arshdeep Singh</a> can make help when such instances occur. Under-using Sandeep Sharma can make life tough for the Punjab Kings. If they want to cruise ahead in the fight for play-offs, he cannot be neglected.

10. GT &#8211; Varun Aaron

The Gujarat Titans are having a blast in their debut season. They are sitting right at the top of the points table with 16 points by winning 8 out of their ten matches. The Hardik Pandya-led side has made a point in their first season and is about to book a place in the play-offs. Bowling has been their area of strength. The likes of Mohammad Shami, Lockie Ferguson, and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-rashid-khan-refers-his-unique-six-hitting-technique-as-snake-shot/">Rashid Khan</a> have largely contributed to their success with some exceptional bowling performances.

But the Indian pace bowler, Varun Aaron, has not yet made any significant contributions as he has played only two matches this season so far. He is certainly an asset for the Gujarat Titans. As Gujarat will try to test their bench strength, Varun Aaron can turn out to be a lethal option in their armory. The likes of Shami and Ferguson could be rested ahead of the play-offs and Varun Aaron can use the opportunity to his and the team’s benefit.

In his IPL career, he has bagged 44 wickets in 52 matches with an economy of 8.94. He has got the experience as he has been in the IPL circuit since 2011. He is a quick, well-rounded fast bowler who can provide those crucial breakthroughs in the powerplay. The Gujarat Titans won’t look to make major changes in the playoffs, though now, they have the liberty to test Varun Aaron and utilize his services for their benefit.
