IPL 2022: Updated Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap lists after RR vs CSK
Rajasthan Royals have made it to the top two of IPL 2022.
Rajasthan Royals got the better of Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in Match 68 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on May 20. By the virtue of this win, not only do the Royals take the second spot in the points table with 18 points to their tally but also push the Lucknow Super Giants to the third spot with a far superior net run rate. Thus, RR will now be locking horns with the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 while LSG will play either the Delhi Capitals or Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator.
Chennai skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed early but, his opening partner Devon Conway and no. 3 batter Moeen Ali were then involved in an 83-run stand for the second wicket. It was Ali who did the bulk of scoring even when the four-time winners kept losing wickets from the other end. Moeen lost his wicket in the final over, scoring 93 runs from 57 deliveries as CSK posted 150/6.
Wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (2/26) and Windies pacer Obed McCoy (2/20) were the pick of the bowlers for RR while Trent Boult and Ravichandran Ashwin took a scalp each.

In reply, Rajasthan lost their star batter, Jos Buttler, cheaply for just two before Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Sanju Samson added 51 runs for the second wicket. Jaiswal continued to make the most of his good form as he anchored the RR chase. He scored a 44-ball 59 before losing his wicket in the 15th over.
Towards the back end of the innings, the inaugural edition’s winners lost half their side but, Ravichandran Ashwin kept his side in the hunt with his never-say-die attitude. His unbeaten 40 runs off 23 balls at a strike rate of almost 174 helped the Royals get past the finish line in the final over.
Prashant Solanki was the pick of the bowlers for CSK with figures of 2/20 whereas, Simarjeet Singh, Mitchell Santner and Moeen Ali chipped in with one wicket apiece.
