It was a fun Sunday for cricket lovers, as two exciting contests during the double-header of the Indian Premier League (IPL) were played on April 10 (Sunday). In the afternoon, Delhi Capitals (DC) managed to stop the winning streak of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and the evening game saw Rajasthan Royals (RR) getting the better of the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the last-over thriller.
In the first game, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first. The DC openers came all guns blazing as Prithvi Shaw and David Warner added 93 runs for the first wicket. While Warner scored 61 runs from 45 balls, Shaw also made it matter with a 29-ball 51.
The Men in Purple tried to get back into the contest after accounting for both the batters, but that was not the case as the duo of Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur powered Delhi to a mammoth 215/5 from their 20 overs.
In reply, the two-time champions were reduced to 38/2 in the fifth over, before Nitish Rana and skipper Shreyas Iyer added 69 runs for the third wicket. However, as soon as the duo was dismissed, it was curtains for KKR. Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/35 and was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Rajasthan Royals stop the winning run of LSG
Batting first, Rajasthan Royals were in all sorts of trouble. However, Shimron Hetmyer (59 off 36 balls) and Ravichandran Ashwin (28 off 23 balls) ensured that RR finished on a competitive total of 165 in their 20 overs. Spinner Krishnappa Gowtham was the pick of the bowlers for LSG, scalping two vital wickets.
In reply, Kiwi pacer Trent Boult spewed venom with the new ball, as he sent the LSG skipper KL Rahul and Gowtham packing in quick succession. Despite Quinton de Kock (39 off 32 balls) and Marcus Stoinis’ (38 off 17 balls) efforts, the Super Giants never looked comfortable in their chase. As a result, they handed two vital points to RR.
Meanwhile, RR after winning their contest against LSG, replace KKR and take the first position in the points table. KKR have slipped to the second spot. Gujarat Titans are on the third spot with three wins in as many matches and Royal Challengers Bangalore occupy the fourth place in the points table.
